NOAA earth map has the Western Isles cranked up to 78mph sustained on Tuesday Morning.........
-
Very stormy period of weather coming up, initially for the far south of England and then Scotland/Northern Ireland.
Still considerable run-to-run variation in the exact low centre at a given point in time which could make all the difference regarding how far inland the strongest winds are felt (especially across Scotland). Either way it looks like there will be travel disruption at a time when it causes the most problems.
Initially? its been blowing a gale for the past three weeks up here! lol

The Met Office should have the entire UK under the same levels of warnings. When was the last time we seen a storm that'll affect the entire UK with similar windspeeds?
-
exactly!! so I'm guessing 90+mph for the central belt?? Am I right??
I expect we'll get pretty hefty gusts all day Monday, stronger gusts on Tuesday morning and into the afternoon as the centre of the low heads up past the north west coast!
-
I like a good storm like this, but, this time round I just wish all the forecast models have it wrong and we have a nice big dumping of snow followed by crisp sunshine right through till March/April....but that'd be dreaming
-
Seems that everyones forgotten the 1998 Boxing Day storm then if 1997 was the last time we had any stormy weather over Christmas.....Some colossal swells being forecast over the next week on Magic Seaweed!http://magicseaweed.com/UK-Ireland-Surf-Chart/1/

141mph was recorded on Aonoch Mor earlier according to the BBC. This one hit abit close to home for me, tree landed on my dads car when he was on his way to work, thankfully he's ok, but the cars not!

Must say, sea height of 48ft + is crazy stuff. Yikes!
-
Some very hefty snow showers passing through the doon valley, pretty gusty too, lost a few roof tiles, and so have the neighbours.
-
Winds picking up here in the Doon Valley, roof tiles are bouncing already, bit earlier than I expected!
-
Must say those are some tight isobars to the west!
-
Been awake for a few hours now thanks to the noise made by tiles coming off the roof and all the usual noise you get with strong winds. Tbh, its been the first time its been like this all autumn/winter here in Ayrshire, the rest of the time it's just been pouring down or if we're lucky, frosty.
-
Just seen the weirdest thing. 3 times there were flashes across the whole sky. First a purple flash, then a another, followed by a greanish/blue. No bangs pops or rumbles either! Weird!
-
VERY heavy hail here now and thunderstorms!
-
Up to 81mph here now.
-
I see Oban station has stopped reporting too.
-
Well it sounds like my roof is doing summer salts and the tiles are having a party!!
West facing windows are appear to be bellying in!
Its been like that here n worse since 10am here! lol Still, it hasnt come quite anything near to the 98 boxin day storm, at least not for here.
-
if this is true as just quoted on BBC check this out omg 1520:
@bbcnews RT @BBCWeather: Cairngorm summit just recorded 165mph, only 8mph short of the all-time record. #ukstorm #scotstorm
not bothered if on top of mountain or not that is seriously quick
Thats pretty incredible! Glad those kinda winds dont ever really get down to surface level.
-
up to 77mph here now! These showers are VERY gusty indeed.
Just had another, proper snow this time!!
-
that was a VERY gusty hail shower that just come in from the coast! Pretty scary tbh.
-
Id say its noteworthy, considering glasgow is inland. I certainly think the worst is yet to come here anyway! In the past half hour here, its been non stop!

Hmm, given that the whole country is going to see similar wind speeds today and tomorrow, shouldn't we all be under the same level of warnings? Met office are still saying up to 90mph for Western Scotland, yet we're only at Amber warning levels.....
