This is an odd beasty indeed! It goes calmer, then suddenly its back, then after ten mins or so, it goes calmer again, then its back again, worse than the time before!
-
Ive never seen the clyde that high before tbh.
-
Just had a heavy shower here. Never heard the wind come back so suddenly. It was quiet for abit before, then this BANG and its suddenly screaming again! Even the floor lifted! Its a LONG time since Ive felt that happen!
-
Just spotted a plane banking round from after taking off from Prestwick. I would NOT want to be on that. They must be mad!
-
Ive also NEVER seen a concrete lampost shaking in the wind. Thats new to me :s
-
Its not even here yet! Rains going sideways, and its LASHING down. Tis quite something to watch it race along the hill outside in blankets! Water can barely reach the drain out in the garden, its getting blown back from it!
And now its gone clear apart from looking west. Never seen CB's move THAT fast in my life!

This worrying me, the storm looks stronger than the boxing day storm, although I was too young to remember, I was 6, here it is:

It is going to be a very dangerous day tomorrow and tomorrow evening/late, very.
I expect this to take centre stage in the media.
If it is worse, then OH dear is all I can say!! Even if its on the same level.

i was thinking that 105mph is i recall, very scary night that was
I think its most certainly possible. I think the 105mph was recorded at Prestwick where there were some planes flipped over, but there were higher gusts farther inland and higher up.
From the met office the highest gusts around Prestwick is 86mph, which seems to be the highest they give for Ayrshire, but as prestwick is right on the coast Id say the gust will be higher still than that.
-
I wonder if this is going to be on the same scale as the boxing day storm in 98, or worse?
-
Looks like we might be getting something here in Ayrshire. Some very heavy showers moving up the long the coast with a couple of flashes where I am. Sky is a lovely violet colour!
-
Seems to be some activity around the Firth of Clyde area. Certainly looking out the window, it looks pretty black over that way...with a nice peachy tint to the clouds!
-
I think I spoke to soon in thinking it was over. House is bouncing, good old howl/roar from the wind too!
-
Power just came back on, was off for about 20 minutes!
-
We`ve seen the worst of it now I reckon.
-
For YOUR area maybe. Other areas are in line for much worse conditions. Your area was never meant to be in the firing line.
I do wish the "Class of '87" would stop flippantly disregarding the potential dangers of this storm just because it's not significant for their area.
It is ALWAYS the same. Anytime there is strong winds forecast, its all about 1987........

Prestwick mean speed 36mph, gusting to just over 50mph, that was an hour ago.
Xc weathers live pressure chart has changed quite abit too
-
OO I swear I heard rooftile movement.....
-
winds up to around 30mph now and getting pretty gusty!
-
latest "live" pressure chart
-
Breezy here, winds up to 23mph.....
-
Im not sure if im the only one seeing this, but there seems to be, as it approaches ireland, a "flick" to the northeast?
-
Watching the sat pics, it does seem to be moving east.. and not north east!
-
Very quiet here, Rain went off 20 mins ago, 8mph wind.....
-
I remember that storm, I was still living at home with my parents, the power went out, the cats were beside themselves and we thought the windows were going to blow in, very scary. Went out next day and there was so much damage, there was a big boat aground on Troon beach, countless trees/fences down. Haven't seen anything as bad since I don't think.
I also remember planes being overturned at Prestwick airport. It was certainly scary, I would have been around 9 then, and was fascinated with the weather, and that storm has made me wary of strong winds since, but NOTHING has come close to it here.
