  1. I've had a thought to settle this once and for all............................ask 1 member to pick 5 numbers out of 10 in favour and the remainder numbers are counted against the arguement,we blindly post our choice of number and at the end of the alloted time the poll is counted and we abide by the result for a couple of weeks?

Surely we'll get just as far forward. :good:

  2. A few more pics from the North Sea, The first few shots was when we had the strong winds , [DURING THE NEW MOON PHASE}

The last two were taken during the First quarter stage, virtually calm

    All taken this month

    nigel

A superb exhibition of the changing weather faces of the North East, thank you.

  3. Is that right PP, do you have a degree in Photography that I don't know about? and I would be grateful if you didn't call one of my closest friends and one of the most knowledgeable people I know on photography , what you called him.

You are out of order. I don't go slagging of your friends now do I.

How could you he's got none?Maybe this is how he expresses the hurt.

  4. I do understand that Phil, but I am suggestion a critiques thread for those who do want it to be that clinical, those who want honest opinions on their work so they can improve or tweek their techniques to get what they want out of photography.

The other option like I have said before, is for those who want genuine advice and feed back to put in their thread that they do want such feed back.

People have to realise that not all feed back is going to be sweetness and light and that everyone has an opinion, whether it be right or wrong. If people are really that worried about the fact others may not like their work then maybe posting it is not such a good idea.

Yep I get what you mean and utterly agree with that last point. When I post some arty *arty stuff I would prefer the more talented an experienced photographers such as yourself and others to constructively review my work so as to forward my hobby for me.Additional re: Micks post above I too hope we don't have to read someones life story before we see a piccy(If I read that post correctly)

  5. I think a critiques thread might be an idea, for those who do want constructive criticism.

Yes ok louby that is a valid point but as I stated earlier it may not need to be that clinical, many of my photos are winter weather as it happens........[if I throw a dog a bone I don't wanna know how it tastes]........a quote that springs to mind,by that I mean if i'm told that snowdrift is lit from the wrong angle I'll not care as i'm purely reporting. If on the other hand my photo of a pylon at dawn is criticised coz it had a pylon against the sunrise in it then fair enough as that is my taste...........art is passed onto the ages and the best are remebered and the dross forgotten.I don't think it's fair to police how someone wishes to comment on art..............there lyeth one hell of a slippery slope.

  6. Hi,

No fliter were used on these photo's. I do own a uv fliter and have thought about investing in some, but the chocies are endless, I did find a good programme which gives all the same flittered affects without buying the lenes - it called Tiffex DFX

I havent tried the Natural Density filters, but would like t

Going back to my photos, maybe i should have posted before and after photos, so someone could have guided me to show me where i went wrong, only a idea

What precisely makes you feel you went wrong?I would find that fascinating purely as an educational

excercise for me to see how these procedures work.

  7. Well have two sections then...

    Snap shots

    &

    Experienced photographers

    :)

    14.jpg

Are these weather related? , the purpose of those shots are to show the beach on a nice day... However they have clouds in them so weather? :)

    nice pics Niel :);):)

But seriously there have been some well constructed points on both sides of this erm....chat.I personaly am talentless and possibly colour blind but enjoy the challenge of jumping in the 4x4 and heading up the hills at the first sign of sleet!I find it interesting to post immages of current weather pictures as a record of local conditions and because it is afterall a weather site.As mentioned the solution is simple split it into three categories, weather, art, miscellaneous.I disagree with a premiership of photographers as the learners like me benefit massively from their know- how.Nw is fortunate to have hugely talented photographic artists amongst it's ranks and I think that Oons original point is valid re:banal praise but would be a mute point if sections were to be split as i wouldn't give a hoot if someone said they thought my blizzard shot was a bit fuzzy as I'd post back "you stand here and do better!".....but equally if I saw a rather good sunset in the art section I should be allowed to thank that person in any way I see fit........not have to form a 30 word essay.

  8. You don't do you? Why is that? Such a thing surely exists ...

... or even better put a pan of hot boiling water into said freezer, claim that 'hey the system is getting warmer' before discovering that it'd been unplugged and that it had all along been a case of less output (nil) from the power source ;)

    Next on cookery corner......................... ;)

  9. But it's not about LOCAL events: they will always show variability, of course they will.

I think people will find in a huge world whatever evidence suits them.I could add Iran/Iraqi heavy snow...some would say not unexpected or mention the Winter battering America has taken...seasonal norm?Others could find hundreds more examples for and against warming(undeniable fact in my mind that Earth was)but we are certainly not in the doomsday posistion bandied around as little as 5 years ago.Climate cycles should not be dismissed out of hand and the possibility that the warming theory is wrong may gather pace.

People try to have their cake and eat it.If there's drought or a flood media etc say warmings to blame,if there's a snow event or an abnormaly cold event in the world it's dismissed out of hand as a natural occurance.
