  1. Well of course.

And indeed if the glaciers were advancing, UK snow more common, UK winters icy, and average temperatures falling here and globally, that people here would be arguing nothing was happening???

Or indeed if the waters around Shetland Coasties part of the world were getting colder.Heaven forbid we would dismiss it for not being in keeping with fashion huh?

Well did you ever hear of an average phone number?

Telephone numbers aren't a MEASURE of anything. Temperature is.

    Very silly comparison.

If you had to pay my phone bill you wouldn't be saying that! :D

  2. My advice is that you jump in an oven, turn the heat up and try to argue that because you've only been monitoring temperature for a few hours your not therefore warming up ;)

Or a new freezer that has just been turned on and argue it wont get colder because it's warm now do you mean? :D

  3. What? Say I asked what the average UK life expectancy was, you would reply "Is taking the phone-book and averaging all of the telephone numbers useful?"?

Averaging temperatures readings gives.....an average. I don't think anyone needs two brains to understand that?

There again only averaging temp's over a miniscule time period say less than 100,000 yrs let alone under 100 or since 1971 so that a warming trend is highlighted is sensible?Think I'll reach for the phonebook too.

  4. Somebody once said to me that people tend to agree with reports/findings that represent their own view and dismiss what does not.The northern costal extremities of our country would I believe indicate changes in climate/maritme conditions earlier than hugely populated areas as human influences are not so obvious.

If the climate is as I now believe following a naturaly occuring cycle, reports such as this will become commonplace in the ensuing years.

  5. Looking at the martian's pose, they're very photogenic and very vain ;) I'm sorry guys and galls, I truly dont want to offend anyone, but I cant believe for one second that anyone can take this seriously, personally I think 'Sunday Sports' world war II bomber on the moon was more convincing than this!

If you look closely you can see the Mashmen playing strip poker with the Clangers

  6. Not everyone is that sloppy.

Are you scared of scientists? Other people who are qualified have a say in what scientists do, would you like the general public to have a veto on what can be done? Scientists are responsible people in general and like all lines of work sometimes accidents happen but as I'm sure you'll agree they are somewhat rare. Speaking from my own branch of science I have the technical know-how to make explosives, poisons and mind altering substances, as do thousands of others but we don't do it.

I believe the bluetongue virus has made a natural progression.

No I'm not at all scared of scientists?Erm... a veto for the public,is that maybe democracy? If a baker makes a mistake you get hard pasties................if a god awful human manufactured virus is released by a lets say tired lab technician it'll be tough cookies for us all- more a matter of degree of consequences for a mishap was my point.

I thought the bluetongue epidemic had been linked to a research centre's outlet pipe or the like........my mistake............yes you're right we all make mistakes. And i'm so pleased that scientists can make explosives etc but don't......oops must go a programme about Oppenheimer's about to begin B)

  7. :)

All I can say blackdown...is that we are all going to die one day. That is of course no excuse to just be hedonistic and not care about things; because our children have to inherit our world. We just have to accept that death is inevitable.

Like sex and taxes I suppose.

I expect the former costs you more :)

  8. I wasn't being sarcastic so you don't need lecture me

I find this piece of research interesting and I was enquiring if anyone else did too, from a scientific view, instead of debating it's Hilteresque qualities, which I happen to think was bad taste but I kept that to myself.

Sorry I mistook your comment as you have mine.I didn't actually say there was a Hitleresque side to it more a concern/interest as to where it may lead.

  9. Facinating reading aj mate.Did you get any further with the synopicts? What would the track of such a monster be as from what I gathered it would be dependant upon where on Earth it originated?Let's say it formed in the Pacific off Japan(arguements sake only)Could it cross the globe or travel long distances inland?

  10. Does anyone else think this is interesting?

I have 7 chilren so do I suppose have a pro-life take on things and was interested in how we treat what is in fact a human being in whatever form.............You post items that I have found dreadfuly dull but I don't go out of my way to tell you :)

  11. Read an item today stating that the Human Fertilisation and Embroyology Authority gave permission after consultations showed the public were at ease with the prospect of creating human-animal embyos for the furtherment of medical research.Surely it raises moral,religious,ethical- lists more issues?I'm not sure I am at ease with the prospect and that surprised me as I am normaly fairly easy going.....who were this 'public' that forwarded the thumbs up?
