  1. The summer is definitely over for Stockholm. After a warm September with much sunshine and small amounts of rain it seems that October will be cold. Tomorrow a cold front from the north will sweep down over the country and give daily maximas of only 10°. And the long range forecast is saying approx. 7° to 10° daytime with nights possibly below 0° for Stockholm, so autumn is definitely here. But for the northern parts of the country winter will begin. Daytime maximas around 0° and nighttime much below zero.
  2. Hello you fellows. Take a look at this essay - http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/09/10/svensmark-global-warming-stopped-and-a-cooling-is-beginning-enjoy-global-warming-while-it-lasts/#more-10739 written by a Danish professor that claims that the culmination of global warming is reached, and that in a few years will tendence do go down instead. Very intresting!
  3. I believe it will be Stockholm, or the island of Öland, since we are both at the east coast. The easters in the north do have longer days, but often more cloudiness, so i believe that the south will win. And in the bottom we will probably find some city at the west coast or probably Växjö at the southern highlands. They nearly always tend to get in the bottom of yearly annual sunshine hours!
  4. Hehe. Hope your cruise has gone well over here despite the awful weather! The weather is really rubbish at this moment, 11°c daytime with pouring rain! Swedish meterologists have said that this is the coldest start to summer in more than 50 years in some places in the country, Stockholm is one of them. The only sunny cloudless summer day was June 1, when we had a 23°c warmth. Since then it has been riduculous low temperatures, with a remarkable t-max of just 8°c at June 4, and some very low minimas at the 6th and the 8th, of just 0°c! The average temperature is this far at 10°c for June, 14°c for the maxima and 6°c for the low. That is some 5°c below the normal, and we are now up to 300% of the normal percipitation in June. What a contrast to April, when weather records were broken all over the country, with both warmth and drought. Here in Stockholm it just rained for one day, when it came 2 mm from the sky. B)
  5. A new month is here and May has passed by. It became a quite normal temperated month over here. Avg. Maxima was 16,0°c and the Minima around 5,5°c, so very near the normal, just ½° above it actually. The rainfall was just like any May-month, nothing special really, not especially much, and no extreme drought which was significant for April this year. The temperatures varied between -1°c the morning of May 1st, and 26°c the last day of the month, in the middle of probably the biggest heatwave in Sweden for a long time in May. Many stations along the coast of Bothnia had some heat records, but now into June the heat is over, with a recent newcomer from the north, a cold front, which has put down temps. with 10-15° from recent days. It is now 8,5°c with quite some rain. Yesterday it was 23°c at this time, quite some difference! And this mess will probably stay here at least one week further from now.
  6. After a cold morning today with 0°c it rose to 17°c by mid day, with some sun too of course.
  7. A new month is here and as I look back it seems that this April month was the warmest and the driest one since records began. Stockholm Arlanda airport had a 7°c average with 13°c as maxima and 1°c as minima. The normal is 4°c for the average, 9°c for the maxima and 0°c for the low. And the most spectacular thing was the drought through the whole month. It rained just one day, and that was the night between the 8/9th, when 1-2 mm were recorded. And since then has it been completely dry, no rain at all, just sunny days with varied cloudiness and days above the normal. No April snow too, which is quite common here since 90% of all years have such a event some time during the month.
  8. The Swedish bureau of meterology has officially said that summer has reached, the very southern parts of the country, due to many days with maximas around 20° and average temps. at or above 10°. Here in Sweden we have the criteria that summer begins when the avg. temp is above 10° five consecutive days in a row. And that is very early in the season. The normal values are probably like two weeks into May. But it will take some time before the whole country has summer since the very northern parts have still quite chilly days which result in avg. temps no higher than 0° or close!
  9. Chilly in Stockholm! After a very warm start to April with nearly 10°c or more every day, it just reached 5°c this afternoon, with quite some wind. And that wind managed to keep the humidity down, with a dewpoint daytime of -10°c which is very low!
  10. Yes, i saw that, very boring weather! It is probably the first day this year it has warmer here than in Britain.
  11. Yes, it certainly was! And today once again very warm. I think we are going here for a very warm April. Since the first day it has always been 10° or above, and it does not seem that it will get any colder, maybe not a small dusting of snow. But north of Stockholm it has been completely different. 18°c today in Stockholm, very high being just 10 days into April. But along the coastal cities Umeå and Skellefteå, some 5-600 km north, just zero or a little above today. Normally it shouldn't be more than a just few degrees difference, at this time of the year, but this is high, and we do still have the same air pressure and wind direction. My guess it that the water, the Gulf of Bothnia is still so cold, and frozen, that clouds and fog easily can come in and cool down the cities a lot. One factor could also be that they still have quite a lot snow, here it disappeared around the 25th of March.
  12. Spring is really here! And all signs of winter are gone now. Since March 31, it has nearly always been 10° every day, or higher here. Today a pleasant sunny 14°c, enough to go outside in t-shirt and stay in the garden! Here are my photos from the 4th of April, a very spring like day here in Stockholm, with 12-15°c temperatures, making a significant ice melting! Enjoy! 1. Warm, but not suitable yet for taking a swim! 2. Ice. 3. Still very cold in the water! A balmy 0-1°c! 4. Sunshine! 5. The first fly of the year! 6. I grabbed some floating ice, and it became a fine sculpture! 7. Ice. 8. Still frozen water in the bay. Notice the very orange colours of the nature. What a contrast against the summer!
  13. Big difference from last week! Very warm day today in Stockholm, astonishing 14°c with sunshine! Since the 1st of April it has been double figures all days, between 10-11°c with the highest one today. It feels just wonderful after the chillyness in the end of March. All signs of the snow is gone, but ice at the lake is still left in the very moment of now. Current data for Stockholm/Järfälla-Sweden 4 April 2009 21:45 Temperature (°C): Current 5,5°c Trend (per hour) -1,8°c Average today 7,9°c Wind chill 5,5°c Heat index 5,5°c Dew Point -0,4°c Rel Humidity 66% Wind (kts): Average Speed 0,0 NNW Pressure (mb): Current 1010,6 Trend (per hour) +0,2
  14. Yes of course! We do have ice skating competions on the ice every year, and many people enjoy that. But that depends of course of how rough the winter really is, this one was quite okey, and therefore it got quite thick, but last year, in 2008, it was impossible. The avg. temp. during the whole winter was extremely high, problably one of the highest in 200 years, and it was never possible to go on the ice!
  15. It has been quite chilly in Stockholm the past days, and as we are nearing the end of March it seems that this month has been quite cool due to this spell and prolonged snow cover nearly during the whole month. And as whole it doesn't seem that we will get to double figures, quite unusal for March! The 25th of March I took a walk down to the local beach to take some photographs, and this is the result! Very chilly morning this day with -11°c, and at day very steady at 0°c. This was taken approx. 30 min before sunset, and the snow is shining at the ice. A view away from the beach. We got a small dusting of snow the 23rd, but due to wind much blowed away! Very shiny! No signs of ice breaking up! The ice became quite thick during this winter due to lack of big snow cover but quite normal temps. So i assume that the ice is still 20 cm thick, enough for take a walk or drive to the nearby island by car! But now really the first warm high pressure will seem to reach Stockholm, and that will probably result in the first 10°c or above with sunshine. That will probably make a significant break up of the ice in the beginning of April!
  16. Very cold today in Stockholm, and we have seen a quite low maxima for this time of the year. It has been sunny mostly today, but a few times quite heavy snow showers, nothing long lasting though. Current data for Stockholm/Järfälla-Sweden 24 March 2009 17:45 Temperature (°C): Current -3,6°c Trend (per hour) -0,5°c Average today -3,7°c Wind chill -10,5°c Dew Point -8,1°c Rel Humidity 71% Wind (kts): Average Speed 18,0 kt NNW Pressure (mb): Current 1001,0 Trend (per hour) +0,5

  18. Really chilly today... The day began at -2°c and some light snow, and by mid day it rose quickly to 1°c with clouds, before it dropped fast again. Total accumulation during the day was around 3 cm of new snow, and once again we are snow covered everywhere... Officially we should have somewhat a hint of spring because of that it was only a few snow spots and snow piles + dry roads before this snowing, but not now! The rest of the will seem to give very cool conditions!
  19. Here i will post my current observations of the weather in Stockholm which, as always is quite changeble! So... Chilly in Stockholm today, but some sun too. The day began with a moderate frost at -7,9°c just after midnight but rose quickly as the sun came to life. At noon it stabilized just above 5°c, with some wind, so it didn't feel especially warm. Next week will seem to give a arctic blast and the temperatures will plumet a lot. Currently it seems that most days will have average temps. below zero with -10°c to -6°c nighttime and days barely above zero, -2°c to 1°c, with a big chance of snow showers... That is very cold for this time of year! As it seems now the 10°-barrier will not be broken this month. Highest this far, a mere 6°c.
  20. Mild night in Stockholm with a sunny day afterwards. It began at 2°c through the morning due to overcast skies and light rain, this was probably the first spring rain this year, and by midday the skies opened up and the temperature rose to 6°c, highest this far 2009! But it was quite windy so it could've been more pleasant. The coming days could give much colder temperatures as the wind will be northernly and we could see moderate frosts during the night and chilly days. Maybe afterwards a milder weekend before it turns even colder next week. The forecast for the 25th is now a t-max of -2°c and snow showers. That is very low being the end of March!
  21. Very warm temperatures in England! Today was probably the mildest day since December last year. It got a little mild, and it topped at 5°c mid day. Unfortuneatly no sun, so it didn't feel so much spring like, but it was no wind, so it was a big plus! Tomorrow will maybe become warmer! And it seems that it could to 7-8°c, but after that it seems to be cooler, and by Friday it could be as low as 0°c or lower mid day with snow showers once again.
  22. Quite chilly in Stockholm today after now 40 hours of light to moderate snowfall. I estimate the snow depth now up to 15 cm, but i assume that it is probably higher more inland from the city. Tmax: 0°c Tmin: -3°c Avg. Humidity: 95% Wind: Moderate from the north. It looks like it will become more springlike during the following days with frosts still at night, at Sunday the dizzy heights of 6°c is expected, and by that moment the spring thaw has probably begun.
  23. Lovely beginning to March here in Stockholm! Sunny and bright skies, with some scattered clouds. Current conditions 10:35 local time. Temp: -4,5°c Humidity: 83% Wind: No one at all. The day began very cold at -13,0°c at 07:00, and it is expected that the temperature will rise near 0°c by midday, and by the evening it should somewhat cool down a bit but not so cold as this morning. -3°c is expected as the low temperature tonight and we could see some snow accumulations tomorrow as the temperature will lie steady at 0°c the whole day. The rest of the week is for the moment giving now the first hint of spring, with some snow thaw too. Nothing special really, but temps. of 4°c could be possible by Friday.
  24. Mild but sunny today in Stockholm. Tmax: +2,0°c Tmin: -6,0°c Avg. Humidity: 86% The day started on the chilly side with clear skies, but mid day it rose above 0°c and it became a little spring-like, slush at the roads, but quite untouched where road traffic wasn't especially active. The rest of the week will give some similar conditions, between -2°c to 2°c daytime, mostly 0°c to 2°c, but probably not mild nights! And the beginning of March does seem now not so confident, the models are varieting a lot at this moment...
  25. Overcast and quite snowy today in Stockholm. Tmin: -2,0°c Tmax: 0,5°c Wind: A brisk 10 knot wind from SE. Pressure: 996,5 hPa and falling. Avg. Humidity 90% It has been milder than recent days today but it felt quite chilly due to the snow and the wind. I estimate that we have now 10 cm more snow than before (ice for two weeks and barely measureable snow). It seems that the coming period will some what give more normal temperatures over here. Daytime values seem to be between -3°c and 2°c the coming week with the colder ones in the end. The beginning of March does seem now not to give any sight of spring yet...
