  1. Very dry and some sun in Stockholm today. Tmax: -2,6°c Tmin: - 6,0°c Avg. Pressure: 1020 hPa. Avg. Humidity: 78% It was also some light winds today, nothing special really, but it felt quite chilly during the afternoon. But it is barely nothing compared to the other half of Sweden. Most places are experiencing nearly 5°c below average terms for February due to much clear skies and many mornings in a row below -20°c. In Stockholm it has been no lower than -12° to -11°c. We are also experiencing a big lack of snow, barely measureble because of a too long dry spell recently. It was ages before it snowed and the average snow depth since 1 January has never been deeper than 4 cm. But still it hasn't been especially mild over here. Highest temp. this far in February is barely a 2°c which doesn't seem to become broken until March...
  2. Horrible weather in Stockholm today. Thick fog which has persisted all day long from midnight. Temps began at 0,5° just after midnight and now very mild at 2°c with 100% humidity, it is just very wet outside and the snow is very slushy. Horrible! Very sharp temperature contrasts in Sweden right now with a strong polar front just 150 km north of Stockholm dividing the country into a very cold and mild part. Temps are now like at -6°c for Gävle 160 km north- and -15°c for Umeå with some light snow, 550 km north of Stockholm. I really wish that polar front could come down a bit, because this type of weather is just unbearable.
  3. A little at the mildish side today in Stockholm. The day started with some moderate snowfall and 0°, and now it has slowly faded away and the temperature outside is 1°. It seems that these mild temps will continue until Sunday, with temps no lower than -1° and daytime around 0°-2° depending on if you are inland or at the coast. Next week seems to bring down maybe some colder air from the north with nighttime temps -10° to -5° and daytime probably -4°c to -1°c, and the weather seems to become quite fair!
  4. Beautiful day in Stockholm with semi-clear skies. Tmin: -10,1°c (07:08) Tmax: -0,1°c (14:53) Avg. Humidity: 89% Winds: Light, from the north. Currently: 10 mins after sunset with clear skies and -2,5°c.
  5. Beautiful weather today in Stockholm! Gazing sunshing after a morning low of -8°c, right now it has settled at -1°c, and the wind is light. And the snow depth is quite packed around 3 cm, which it has been now for a very long time, barely any precipitation at all recently! 3 cm is nothing at all compared to many places now in the UK!
  6. Reykjavik has a very mild climate, barely any persistent snow in winter and hardly any summers. The avg through the whole winter is a merely 0°c and that is what you can expect in February. Mostly a few degrees above 0°c daytime most days, but colder periods below 0°c are not that rare. But it will probably be a little colder than in the UK. The averages for that period is -3°c for minima and 2°c for maxima, but do not get any further more expectations! Whatever the weather I hope you will have a nice northernly holiday! :winky:
  7. It was a cold day in Stockholm that day. The morning began with -10,4°c and rose later by the day to -3,5°c, and it was barely any wind that day. The weather was partly cloudy with some scattered clouds all day, and I decided to visit the public beach for some winter photos! Now it has finally frozen over, and you can truly see the border between the ice which was formed at the end of 2008 and the ice which was formed recently. Sunset is nearing. The January average has been quite normal this far, and despite that the snow amount has been much sparse! Very low temps during the beginning of 2009 but barely and snow cover, 3 cm at most. Jan 2006 had much the same temps like 2009 but the difference was a constant snow cover of 25-30 cm the whole month and the rest of the winter. Tree. Solid frozen water. Soon it will be a ice skating competion here in Stockholm when thousands of enthusiasts will skate down at the Mälar-ice from Uppsala to Stockholm, a 60 km track! - Ice formations. -
  8. Very cold night in Stockholm right now. The temperature is now at -10,2°c with clear skies with a light wind, but no snow cover! Last day topped just at -6,2°c with just frost outside! Such cold temperatures without snow was seen long long ago.
  9. Much colder in Stockholm this day! This week started very mild with 5°c at both Monday and Tuesday, due to strong south-west winds, and at Monday the temperature didn't fall below 3,5°c! It felt very very springlike over here, but since the cold front moved south at Wednesday the daytime temp has fallen with nearly 10 degrees, -4°c today at 14:00 and with a brisk wind that produced below -10°c windchills the whole day. Right now it is -6,2°c and light snow showers. The whole country is now at the below side, even Malmö at lat. 55, with -2°c now. Tomorrow seems to give cold conditions for the whole country, Malmö 1°c, Stockholm -5°c, Luleå -22°c.
  10. Very mild in Stockholm today, it is above zero far up the country today too. It is currently +5,0'c outside now, the highest this far this winter, and the wind is blowing a lot, right now at 20- with gusts to 30 knots. The average temperature for January this far is -4,8°c and it is rising now very fast, soon we will probably reach the January average that i'm counting at for the moment (-3,5°c 1961-1990). Tomorrow is forecasted with the same weather as today, quite windy and +3°c to +5°c for most parts but -5°c for Kiruna in Lapland due to new arctic air moving south. And in the weekend these above-days will probably become below-days, with t-max temps -1°c to -5°c at least a week forward, and maybe a chance for lake-effect snow during these days.
  11. Very mild in Stockholm and all parts of Sweden now. This cold spell has really come to an end and we have now temps all over the country up to Kiruna in Lapland from 0'c to 4'c. Barely a place now with local frost!
  12. Very mild night in Stockholm now. Currently 1,8'c and the snow that is left is thawing away slowly. 17 days of continous cold weather below freezing has turned now in to a milder one. It seems that it can be so now for some days foreward until this milder spell will culminate and dryer air from the north will come down. The snow will probably be gone tomorrow, but that is because of the tiny snow amount we have at this moment, it has been just cold cold dry air from Christmas to now, barely snow. The big snow amount we have got this winter was when it began in the middle of November with the first snow fall around the 15th and by the 20th a snow cover began to form and a few days later we had blizzard conditions and depths of 20-40 cm in whole Stockholm county. But everything thawed away during the mildish first half of December!
  13. Mild in Stockholm today. The morning began with a -4,1'c at 05:30, but maxed out at 2,4'c at noon. Right now 1,8'c with cloudy skies and 95% humidity. Mild, damp and the snow is thawing away.
  14. Much milder this evening in Stockholm! Clouds have formed right now in the sky, making temperatures rise. Today started very cold, with a -16'c at midnight, coldest this far this winter, and it rose by morning to -10'c due to clouds, and stayed around -9'c at noon when clouds disappeared. With the northerly wind of 11 kts counted within the avg. windchill would have been around -16'c to -18'c during the day. And now a new package of clouds has arrived and it has hit -6'c, making it the mildest one for some days now. Tomorrow seems to be quite milder, in the afternoon around -3'c with a weak warm front passing by, i hope that one could give some 5 cm, because it's barely a cm now at the ground. It was a long time ago I saw such cold temps with this tiny amount of snow!
  15. Wonderful weather now outside Stockholm! Right now it is clear dark skies over the capitol, and the temperature is now at -6'c and falling, after a nice cold tmax at -2'c. And it fell too a thin snow dust over here, perfect for this day. After this mild start to December a colder end will probably be true! Merry Christmas!
  16. First quite coolish day to Stockholm since the beginning of December. It was sunny and cloudless and very dry, so dry that frost didn't form on grass and windshields, and it felt quite bitter with a 30 km/h N wind all day. Tmax -0,5'c. Tmin -3,0'c and falling right now. Pressure: 1022 hPa and rising.
  17. A mild day for Stockholm today, nearly the same conditions as the days this far in December. Tmax: 3,5'c Tmin: -2,5'c Not especially windy, but very moist and some light rain during the day and quite overcast skies.
  18. Hehe, i believe it doesn't happen often! And here in Sweden the night to October 31 a snow fall area gave the first snow for nearly the whole southern part of Sweden. But we in Stockholm county were never hit, the temp overnight was not even near snow-temps, a lousy 5'c!
  19. In Stockholm April has been this far quite normal, around 4'c in avg, and some days with tmax around 10'c and a little snow dump at the 9th with temps just above 0'c all day. And what it seems no warmth is on the way, after a extremely lousy winter the temps are just a little more warmer than in January. Normally it differs around 10'c in daytemp between Jan and Apr, but this far 2008, 4'c. Lousy!
  20. Here in Stockholm we have also seen this winter as an extremely mild one, no very cold temps and barely no long prevailed snow cover at all with temps much much higher than the normal ones. November was the only month with somewhat 'normal' temps, i measured +3,8'c as avg. high temp and -1,0'c as min. It felt quite chilly during that month and it fell some snow, in the middle of the month fell 30+ cm 15 km south of Stockholm which is extremely much! And the months after november where very disappointing, it didn't get really colder than it was that month, and that avg was 'repeated 'in every month after it, making especially jan and feb unwintry months with anomalies like 5 degrees above the norm. Now it seems that the beginning of march will prevail with the coldest temps during this winter!
  21. Stockholm-Hässelby 16:30 Temp: 3,5'c Humidity: 95% Pressure: 986 mb and falling The weather: Light rain, damp and totaly awful, please never again rain during dec-feb! //
  22. I took a flight 15 February over lake Mälaren to see the current condions for the moment, not very good quality, but here is the result! It looked very spring like from above that day, but no slightest trace of snow, but quite cold outside. It looked like a 10'c++ day in April but the temp at midday was still between -3'c and -2'c, which for this winters standards would be called as a very cold day! And it was no frost outside due to the very low humidity. Here you can see some ice, but it was really thin and it would probably not get any thicker next days... The ice skating competion at the waters of Stockholm in the end of Feb will probably not take place this year!
  23. It is just a special feeling to see everything all frozen in rime frost, and i believe that -8'c is very cold for being snow free! Brilliant!
  24. Hehe, from my point of view it doesn't look like a true blizzard, but ok, it depends on what you compare with, if you live in Athens i assume that just a few flakes would been called a blizzard I'm just getting more frustrated when i hear about the conditions in south east of Europe, they have been the only ones to get really cold weather below normal conditions this winter, especially Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece... And now where i live the max temp forecast is +6'c, the roads are dry, and birds are chirping, record early spring!
