  1. Yes - similar here in Alton. Beginning to give a dusting. The area of snow on radar has grown appreciably in last hour or two Where has this come from.....? Temp here now 0.0c
  2. Here in the far west of the region it is currently +0.1C, cloudy with a few very, very light flurries of snow. Only reached -3C last night which surprised me - perhaps more cloud cover?
  3. Cloudy here at the moment - -0.1C, few tiny flakes of snow. I think we will do okay tomorrow, snow starting probably early/mid morning. Best estimate 5-10cms by Friday evening.
  4. After a minimum last night of -3C temperature is now -0.8c. Cloudy calm and dry. Expecting the snow tomorrow to reach here early morning - could well be moderate accumulations and lasting all day. We shall see.......
  5. Just below freezing here (-0.2C). Fog lifting a little with some apologetic sunshine. Would imagine tonight will be colder - last night's low was -4C.
  6. The crop of showers at present in the west midlands look likely to head into central southern areas soon. They are now showing green on radar (snow/rain) whereas before they were just rain. With temperatures here falling markedly now (+1.6C) we could see a bit more snow
  7. Probably not the place for this but couldn't find an alternative - on the NW radar, when using the 'air pressure' overlay the isobars seem to be out of sync with present air pressure readings by about 4 millibars (i.e. I am in Hampshire where present reading is 1006.5 and it is showing 1011. Am I wrong?
  8. Raining steadily here now. Lying snow beginning to disappear. Temp +2C So many birds on feeders today - often a sign of colder weather to come.....
  9. Yes, I was a teenage weather fan in 62/63 - still have my daily weather records of that winter. There were many ice days but the occasional slightly milder spell with freezing rain and slight thaws. Never enough to remove the snow on the ground. Don't remember seeing weather charts only scraping the ice off the windows to nowcast!
  10. Sleety here now - could well be the beginning of the end for now. Temp now +1.4C. Looking on the radar we are now firmly in the green zone (rain/snow)
  11. Not sure about the outcome re this next band of precipitation. My temperature has risen to +1C quite quickly - my guess is it will be snow then rain before perhaps reverting to snow later today. Time will tell!
  12. Yes that next band of snow/sleet/rain is a puzzle! Temperature here is on the up - now +0.6C (below freezing an hour ago) so could be very marginal. We shall soon find out!
  13. I would say we have about 4cms lying snow now - still snowing, albeit lightly. Think we have been lucky here - narrow band of snow has been drifting southwards over north Hampshire. Temp -0.3c
  14. 2cms lying snow here in Alton, Hampshire. Snowing lightly at the moment. Temp -0.4C
  15. Click on 'Precip Type' button - rest is self explanatory (see key)
  16. Put your location in your signature - don't have to keep including it in every post then!
  17. Not sure which region I am in (Alton, Hampshire) so posting in this one + southwest/central southern. 3.1C here, Moderate SE wind. A cold rain with just a hint of iciness mixed in!
  18. 3.1 C here, wind SE - a very cold rain, with just a touch of iciness mixed in!
  19. I beg to differ. The 1962-3 winter weather began on Boxing Day 1962 (in my neck of the woods anyway, living in Surrey at the time). I remember it well!
  20. Thank you ASWT for that link - as Crewe Cold says you can get an excellent summary of each day's weather for recent years. If, as I do, you save an associated weather chart and satellite photo for each day it gives a good historical record of our weather.
  21. Ever since the BBC updated it's weather website the daily weather reviews which outlined max/min temps, rainfall max, etc and included a description of the past day's weather nationwide seem to have ceased! I for one found them very interesting and I saved them as a record of our weather. Does anyone know if they still exist or if not will they be returning? I have tried emailing BBC on numerous occasions but no one has replied. If they have gone forever are there any similar reports elsewhere?
  22. Snowing gently and settling here! Temperature now down to 1C.
  23. Temperature here in Alton is now 2.8C. Quite surprised it is so high seeing some coastal locations (e.g. Bognor is only 1.7C). Wind has increased - may be the reason. Cloudy now - radar shows sleet creeping over Winchester area. I think this will be a close call - could be that the wind will switch around to N-NE later and temperatures will fall.
