  1. We had a bit of sleet here this morning at 350 feet, looking at the hills in the distance I'd say the snow line was in the order of 700 to 800 feet with an almost cloudless sky at the minute. Pete
  2. Very windy here in North Wales, I can hear various crashing noises from outside and the 100 foot tall Scots Pine opposite our house looks like it may lose the top 20 feet or so. I would estimate that gusts are in the region of 50-55 mph. Pete
  3. Getting very windy here. Half an hour ago it was almost calm. Pete
  4. Heavy snow here in Buckley and sticking too, just been on the phone to relatives in Winsford, Cheshire and just a few flakes there Pete
  5. Just amazing how windy it's been today, the leaves are being ripped off the trees! Pete
  6. Just had a huge thunderstorm here, it's heading over towards Cheshire right now. Pete
  7. Lovely day here today, 21 down the road at Hawarden (warmest place in Wales yet again) Pete
  8. Really coming down hard here, massive flakes too. Pete
  9. Still cut off from the outside world. Flintshire Highways authority very unhelpful. Apparently being a pensioner and living 3 miles from the nearest shop doesn't mean a thing to them. Priorities are being given to things like hospitals of which there are very few in Flintshire, Schools, yeah, but its half term and old peoples homes (fair enough). Pete
  10. A pretty quiet day today. We've seen some fresh snow but not enough to stick. Wind has picked up a little bit and is gradually removing some of the large clumps of snow from the conifers that were threatening to come down. Temperature is just above freezing so there's a bit of a thaw but hardly anything really. I'm still trapped in the house with the highways authority unable (or unwilling) to give me any details on when my lane, some 200 metres long, will be cleared. Ironic really as believe it or not I am just half a mile away from the main depot and the 3rd or 4th house closest to it. Oh my, the sun has just come out!! Pete
  11. Yes, I know Vivod really well, very steep and narrow road up from Llangollen, would be difficult to get anything up there with that level of snow. Spoke to a Scottish Power engineer today who said there are so many isolated communities in the Llangollen and Corwen area that it'll take days to get them all back on. Main problem they have is getting to the trees that have fallen on the lines. Pete
  12. Just steady light snow in the Flintshire, Cheshire border area. We don't really need any more around here, I've already had 3 power interruptions, one of them lasting 15 hours. Spoke to one of the Scottish Power engineers who came down to remove the tree off my line and he told me they'd had 3 foot of level snow up on the top road between Wrexham and Llanarmon. A policeman I spoke to told me that several cars had trees fall on them in The Mold area. Pete
  13. Some pics from this morning Pic at the top is my lane. There's a road under there somewhere. Pete
  14. Lost power last night, a tree right outside the house came down. Just had our power restored so here's an update. Snow depth an amazing 22 inches and this is causing some major problems. We have umpteen trees down including 2 that came down overnight and are resting on the roof. Several more huge branches have come down and more look likely to. I had a really lucky escape when I went out at 8 this morning to listen to the news on the car radio. As the drive is very sheltered it only had a small amount of snow so I decided to reverse a few feet, within 5 minutes a huge branch fell exactly where my car had been sitting. Enough is enough now, looking forward to a thaw so I can get out and do some shopping. Pete
  15. I'm actually a good 3 miles from Buckley. My telephone has a Buckley number though which is why I listed it as my location. I'm literally in the middle of nowhere here, no shops, no bus, no neighbours. I'm lucky to still have electric after this much snow Shed roof and some trees bent over to touch the ground in my lane earlier Pete
  16. We've almost reached an astounding 25cms and the snow is now at its heaviest, 30-35cms is surely a good possibility, Bad news is that we're completely stuck, have lost our satellite signal and even Freeview is breaking up. We're going to need a snowplough down here or we'll be stranded for days as there's no sign of a significant thaw on the horizon. Pete
  17. Just over the border in Flintshire we're taking a real hammering now. 25cms of snow and coming down at 2 to 3cms an hour. What's very odd is that there's hardly any wind now. Pete
  18. Not around here, we had a big storm in mid March 1979, a good 18 inches. This one is next best and it isn't over yet! Pete
  19. It's amazing what a difference being just a few miles inland with a bit of altitude can make. I sit on the 350 foot contour line and as the crow flies just 4 miles to the England/Wales border at Shotwick . Deeside at sea level has about 2 inches up to now apparently. Pete
  20. Same here, footprints starting to fill in. Pretty well cut off now. Pete
  21. BBC 24 News now in Mold, report any second now. Pete
  22. I remember that one well. I've lived in this house for 34 years and that was the highest single snowfall I've seen. I walked up our lane while there was a bit of a respite and there are 3 further massive branches that have bent over onto our lane. Have phoned the council but they are kinda busy right now and being the only house in a 200 metre long lane means I'm a low priority. Meanwhile, snow is picking up again. Pete
  23. No, nearer to Northop Hall. Snow has eased back here too. Pete
