  1. If i may,i would refer one and all to PJBs latest synoptic update on UKWW.An enthralling and knowledgeable insight into the next seven days and as to how our next snow event developed. The media in this country WILL have something to talk nonsense about by Thursday, believe me.clap.gif

Hi everyone, had snow showers on and off but nothing too significant. Still have a slight dusting though biggrin.gif

Nice to see your doing your bit for the carbon footprint mallarcy by driving to your ski chaletlaugh.gif Only jesting Brian.Good to see that amount of snowfall. We have 4-5".Hoping for the same tomorrow evening.

    NE Lincolnshire

    Heavy Snow 1522 Fri 8 2200 Fri 8

Snow showers will continue to feed in from the North Sea and become heavy at times with further accumulations of 2 to 5 cm and locally up to 10 cm.

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice regarding traffic disruption on motorways and trunk roads.

I see the METO have updated their weekend forecast for Yorkshire."Showers pushing well inland on a biting easterly".Now we are getting there.

  3. They did get inland, just not as far as some wanted. Last night they said as far inland as the A1 on local radio (which P Hudson does) which was about right. Just because some of you missed out does not mean the forecast was wrong, showers in nature hit some areas and miss others. Forecasting is all about chances of something happening not that it will happen! Must be very difficult to predicted exactly where the showers will die away.

Have to correct you there.Paul Hudson, late look north last night, forecast a period of snow pushing s/w to cover west and south yorkshire.Much as i dislike to say it ,he was incorrect. At present the media and met are down playing the precip for west yorkshire over the weekend.I fail to understand how Lisa Gallagher can say we only expect a few light showers all day saturday with a direct easterly push. But they are the pros....feel better nowtease.gif

  4. Yep,

The showers will gradually sink southwards, and weaken on its western edge, won't penetrate inland from west of Sprunehorpe/Doncaster imho. Then later on during early hours they should pick up again and push quite far inland, east Yorkshire should do well, and of course South and West Yorkshire Saturday/Sunday.

Now then Storm, just had a quick ganzy at the satellite on meto. The line of showers just off coast, showing on radar also, then disturbance s/w of norway is heading our way middle of night ish.Might be wrong good.gif

  5. Morning everyone, got a shower brewing near me now.

Temp got down to -4 here last night, it's currently -2.5 with a dew of -3.2, i think an ice day today! smile.gif

Couple cms overnight.Temp -5.7 at present .Few clouds building to east.Hoping some showers enter over Scarborough soon and head inland.Good day for you Lewis me thinks.I think a few on this thread will be sending this help.gif out before the end of the week. Edit:there is something brewing off shore above Newcastle.

  6. lol ya spoke too soon >

Outbreaks of sleet or snow will spread southwards through the rest of Saturday and be followed by further snow showers through the evening and into early Sunday. Accumulations of 3 to 6 cm are likely in many parts, with around 10 cm likely in places, chiefly over high ground. Widespread is likely to form on untreated surfaces.

The public are advised to take extra care and refer to the Highways Agency for further advice on road conditions.

thats for all of yorkshire. smile.gif

    Cracking timingdoh.gif

  7. as per my post earlier and the Met O idea of the heavier showers being in the areas they mention.

watch the radar and the sat piccs and if you understand pressure falls watch the surface charts to see how the small variations may help or hinder the formation of very minor troughs that can enhance shower activity, falling pressure means rising air=clouds forming etc etc.

for a UK chart every 3 hours, when it works

or this one every hour from Meteociel

    http://meteocentre.c...〈=en&map=UK

One of the things that I MAY do at some point in the future, after discussions with Paul, is a simple easy to follow guide, video type, first on following GFS charts and forecasting for your own area from them, and then how to understand the 'coded' plots on the two surface charts I've linked to and draw or analyse the charts for an idea, along with the radar and sat piccs of what the weather is likely to do over the next 1 to 12 hours.

A beefy shower has just formed in the flow and is passing through Huddersfield now.Intersting to see if the snow up north sinks. As you say interesting times ahead, and a headache for the forecastersbiggrin.gif

  8. The warnings are gone, but the chance of snow has not..

I actually think the met office have made a bit of a fluff of this, they have not even updated their general forecast since 3am this morning, yes 06z chart has changed things a little, but even still the 00z was fantastic, as was the ECM.

SO what they are going on is beyond me...

    Lewis

Just had a peek at raintoday radar, looks like the showers are pepping up and sinking south from Newcastle to my untrained eye.A warning for Northumberland would not have gone amisswhistling.gif

  9. I can not see Showers escaping central and SE on this chart. We also have -10 850's embedded by this time.

    ECM1-144.GIF?31-12

A sensible post. The 120 fax would bring disruption for definate,to say that there will be no snow is quite niave frankly. The charts on this mornings models and the one shown will spawn plenty of embedded troughs etc.A little patience is required, the frigid air is not yet upon us.cold.gif The media will only forecast 24 hours out, i would have thought, in these cases and their updates will change quite quickly to reflect the developing cold.Enjoy weather loversgood.gif

  10. Penistone itself it clear, with just a slushy coating, although it hasn't stopped the panic buyers at the local shops (no bread or milk to be had anywhere!)

Wer keep getting the odd bit of snow, but it's mainly to our west.

I've not heard anyone say what it's like on the holmfirth road yet (Crow Edge, Carlicoates, Foxhouse Inn area), but I think they've got it quite good up there according to raintoday radar!

Woodhead Pass was passable with care earlier.

edit: it's 1ºc here witha DP of -0.15ºc.

i think the best discription would be 'Snizzle' unknw.gif really fine snow!!

Cheers for the update rolleyes.gif Hade edge was very tricky earlier,as i had to pop up for a while. As i speek the meto have reduced the warnings for here.Probably anticipating the front to fizzle. To be quite honest i would like to see the back of this transitional period now.Looking north east the north sea is already spawning plenty of activity.smile.gif
