Yes that was epic rain fall here in sheffield, garage now flooded..trees really swaying, bins allover the road..I am not looking forward to the school run
-
Winds defiantly stronger here than they were an hour ago.. barometer steadily dropping, 28.7 inches ..sorry not sure of the reading in mb.. its very old but served my grandmother well for many years. Another heavy rain burst has just started
-
Wind just starting to gust up here, can't give a speed unfortunately..and we have a rain/ sleet shower..pretty elevated location though
-
Just started to snow in the highest part of Sheffield 1000 ft asl, can't give any temps unfortunately..
-
Can't beleive how fast it's settled, theres about 3 to 4 inch up here. Will go out with ruler to check shortly. Gutted for once, was supposed to be taking horses out today.
Was looking at radar and it seems to be pivoting round, will it turn back on us do you think?
Wondering if I will manage a trip to the field over the valley later.

Been snowing here for a few hours, we awoke at 7. a.m and there was a good covering then. We now have a couple of c.m.

It's very sureal up here, we still have loads of snow cover and had a slight thaw yesterday. This morning all the trees are frozen solid with the ice from the melt, snow on the ground is frozen alongside the black ice everywhere. I have never heard trees crunch before, it looks magical just like narnina, but seems deadly. The main road up to where I live is closed by an accident, I have not attempted to do the school run, and talking to my friend next door (her hubby is a policeman) there are lots of accidents allover sheffield. Will try and get some shots of the creaky ice trees in a bit.
Looking at the radar it seems that the snow is edging ever closer to sheff, just to add to the chaos

rain today is showing showers as hail for us, but it's falling as snow
-
Met office have placed an orange warning on s.yorks/n.yorks for this morning, further 5-10 cm between 6 and 12. Still snowing up here touch heavier than before but still small flakes
-
they stopped gritting our side roads a week ago, roads are a right mess our car has not moved for a week. The local farmer pulled his snow plough over the roads a few days ago, but he just scraped the slushy bit off leaving a sheet of ice underneath, at least this morning there will be somthing to grip onto
-
Snow has pretty much fallen all night here, resulted in about 5cm and some deeper drifting. Theres still lots of cover left up here so things are a little messy, no big thaw as such but the snow is more squishy than before..Still snowing now
-
Encouragingly the snow has upped intensity here, and despite the wet roads, has settled easily. So now the road is re-covered with a dusting! Snowing moderately still.
we also have quite a heavy shower up here, has coverd all the spots on the wall from the melt
-
we have the startings of a light snow fall here, just the odd flake every now and again. A little bit of a thaw but not much, only the stuff on the tops of walls and fences is starting to thaw.
-
had a couple of cm overnight, nothing too impressive. Still have the odd flake falling at the mo. Have to go forage for food later, the panic buyers have stripped all supplies up here..

Just waking myself up with a nice coffe and a check of the radar, theres a rather large arc just clipping Grimsby at the moment. Does anyone think it will push far enough inland to give s.yorks a bit more? otherwise looking like quite a boring day for me..Mind you getting to school with the baby in tow is a nightmare at the moment.. and here I am wishing for more snow.
-
Just been out to mesure now the snow has finally stopped for a while, we have a staggering 17.4 cm of snow on the ground. Mesured on a hard surface, will be more on other areas due to the old stuff from before xmas.
-
What happened to that zoom in bar on the rain today radar
I noticed that too, thought it was just me..
-
Measured around 4" to 5" in different parts of the garden
Road is horrible and had to get 2 neighbours to push me up the drive.
Have had another shower which has covered what I have shifted so all in all a very good day for Normy............
Have not mesured for a few hours, last one was around 6 inch or 15.5 cm.. it's just not stopped at all up here. Am just waiting for kids to fall asleep and then I may go do some mesuring.. and also a rather tipsy attempt at a snow sculpture on the drive
-
just waded down the garden to shut in the hens for the night, it's bucketing it down am having a rather large glass of red to celebrate
-
What can I say, superb day ! Last mesurement was 15.5 cm and it's still snowing quite heavily at times too.. dread to think what I will awake to in the morning..

If anyone has a chance of the magic foot of snow - it's you! (and Pennine Ten Foot Drifts)
Moderate snow here now
Fingers crossed.. will be out to mesure again after this latest dumping.. had nine cm's of fresh stuff since this morning and there was about four cm's laying on all grass and pavements from the last lot..
-
just started to get moderate to heavy snowfall up here again.. god it would be soo cool to reach a foot of snow.. just like the winters I remember in the late 70's
