O.k.. I had a two foot drift stuck up the back door..had to dig out of the door an incredible amount of snow..quite memorable! Will be dragging the kids out in it later..
-
Good lord.. Drifts everywhere
-
On off light to heavy periods here
-
Did anyone in sheffield area just see lightning?
-
Complete white out up here..can't hear a sound outside apart from the wind..no traffic no people..its quite tranquil ..nearly time to crack open a can
-
Very fine snowfall here now, radar also suggests nothing over us.. Time to pick up kids, why the school opened up anyway is beyond me
-
I.m looking at that nice amber reversed C shape on the METO's forecast and reading 20-40cm over the hills from 14:00 to 06:00.
Theres already 6" on my wheelie bin and its still coming down.
Pistols@Dawn
We have about 5 inch.. Another 20/40cm would complete my weekend
-
This is excellent.. 0.4° and a nice heavy fall of snow ..
-
We stocked up yesterday .. Planning on spending two days enjoying the snow. Temp actually dropped by a fraction here.

There's always tomorrow Adam

Just been looking on meto android app.. There's a precip projection widget.. Looking at that they suggest a heavier patch right over where i am up until midday. Usually this isn't far off the Mark when you compare it to the actual live radar
-
0.6° here currently. Snow just turned from fine flakes to bigger wetter looking flakes..school just text to say they are open but won't grit the grounds..ho hum..was hoping to have kids at home..now to trudge through the blizzard..

Thanks. I'll be keeping my eye on the radar today. Obviously living at the elevation we do it pays to be aware of how bad it may get.. Plus i bloody love snowBBC forecast has it pepping up especially over night.
Yes Honeyplanet, those strong eastily winds look to drive it quite badly.

i see, so as the band stalls and gains intensity the wind direction changes to easterly? sorry just trying to have a better understandingStalled Front which is the reason. It's the strengh of the front which is going to be the defining feature.
No

Isn't there a second band due..

We have about an inch too

Meto have my location as heavy snow from 03:00 right through to Saturday evening o.0 .. Hope it pulls off
-
Yellow is back for Sat ..shame there's no amber
-
Arrgh no no no..haha "We got it wrong, no snow just lots of rain"
lol

I just asked hubby to take me shopping tonight. If all the forecasts are correct we will be digging out at our elevation. I know its down radar watching on the day.. It would be a most excellent birthday weekend though.Well, having said the above, as per my previous posts until I see how the radar is looking tomorrow morning I'm still not making any final decisions. All along I've had a feeling we might end up just that little bit too far north and east for the heaviest snow. It's looking pretty certain we'll see snow tomorrow + Saturday, but I'm still not convinced that anywhere other than the southernmost parts of our region, (south Sheffield and down), will see heavy snow.

Just been reading the model discussion thread..wow I am starting to feel like a kid at Christmas..
-
Fingers crossed we get one last good one .. It would be epic to actually get 40cm but i will be happy just to see a nice covering
-
I live in one of sheffields highest points, roughly 1000ft asl. I've been keeping up to date with the changing forecast..watching the temps dropping away steadily. Is the 40cm prediction likely to come off? Having spent all winter preparing for the worst and waking up to a disappointing covering, i am not getting too excited..but if was to happen this weekend i need forward planning..can't get snowed in on my birthday weekend with no supplies to enjoy the chaos with.

I think i can definitely say this is the most snow i have seen in quite some time. I think the epic drifts make it so much more enjoyable! I will get some pictures today. Redmires looks just like narnia.
