  1. Amazing pictures there, John. That is lightning to die for...well, photographically, not literally!

Glad you guys stayed safe. It certainly seemed to be going wild as things were kicking off. Hope you manage to spot an elusive twister today.

    Good luck

    Peter

Cheers Peter (means allot coming from you) and all!

I wish I could take full credit for the pics. But it was my first attempt at nighttime lightning shots, so Paul told me what iso to use and pat got me the optimum F stop, the only thing I can take credit for is the focus and to be honest I probably have to give credit to the live view function on the canon 450 for that.

Just a jammy f3cker to be honest. Rushing out the door on route to N Central OK at the moment. hopefully we will have better mobile internet today for the streaming as yesterday was a bit of a disaster

  2. What can I say... a day I will never forget. Just going to post up some pics I took before I fall asleep infront of me lappy. more will come. I believe Pat has some good video of us getting pounded by RFD in Pauduca (probably not right spelling but its late). More toorrow....

Best lightning show I've seen in my entire life.

  3. SP

We are staying at Brownfield and not Hobbs, but now have a Developing Storm going up above our heads and watching the Squall Line to our West in case it comes over us later.

Frustrating Chase today as per Nick and Tony's thoughts and extensive Cloud Cover really scuppered our chances, oh well always another day tomorrow!

    John

  4. Paul S Here

Sitting Tight at Brownfield at the Moment, As Tony and Nick say not going to plan at the moment so no point driving all day for little reward so will sit tight for the time being, liking the Clearance to our West at the Moment in SE New Mexico and if anything does fire then we might have something to Chase in the next few hours, Cloud cover has been a pain all day. Will watch the area around Lubbock as well in the next hour.

  5. Hi Guys

We have Indeed Stopped for Lunch but Will sort out the Upside Down or Back to Front Camera Settings later today, Todays Risk has all but gone a bit **** Up so we are Positioning for what could be some Incredible Structures Tomorrow and some Risks for Tornadoes, so Tomorrows Streaming should be a Lot better with Initiation etc.

Thanks for all the Kind Comments on the Stream

    John

Current Thinking tommorrow From Paul is the I29 Coridoor in the Texas Panhandle from Lubbcok up to Amarillo.

  6. Fair Play to Paul S

After the 10 hour flight we hit the road and drove 150 miles to about 15 Miles North of Witchita Falls and watched Tornado Warned Storms until 11pm (US Time) and got back to the Hotel at 1am (7am Uk Time) So we had been up 26 hours, now awoken to a Thunderstorm at 6am US Time.

The guests are extremely happy already and we have not even had a proper Chase Yet! That should be from about 9pm your time tonight.

    John

Oh this is soooo exciting! I want sound too lolol. If its any consolation its raining here too. Although without the thunder. 8c means its bloody freezing! Whats the temp out there right now?

Hi Becca was 23c at 1am and now about 18c

Expecting highs in the Upper 20's today

  7. Still a nice Little Wake Up Call here with Thunder and Lightning, all bodes well for later and Outflow boundaries.

Live Streaming picking up the Lightning but as it is getting lighter not for much longer.

    Tom Lynch

Yes Nick another Core about to hit us

  8. Glad you liked it, John. Hope you liked the photos, too - my memories of last year include me photographing everything in sight and you videoing anything that moved!

    Enjoy this year's chase

    Peter

Loved the pics Peter thanks. Love the reflection in the car hehe. I dont think your comment is fair though. I took video of stuff that didnt move also.

  9. Not sure if this was posted on the site, but the article I wrote about last year's chase with Michael Fish in the March/April issue of The Travel & Leisure Magazine can now be seen online. Just click on this link: http://www.digital.tlmags.com/index.aspx?issue=issue08, then click on where it says Cut to the Chase on the front page.

It is on page 43 in case the direct link doesn't work. Brings it all back...

    Cheers

    Peter

Thanks for that Peter, I missed that last too. Good read

  10. I must repeat the best set up I have arrived into. I think tour 1 are going to have a treat. :bomb:

That coming from a seasoned chaser like yourself Tom, I must admit is making me 10 times more excited, regardless of tiredness.!

Yeah Pat. Will be at airport for 12:00 i Cork. Still have about 2 hours packing and prep to do. cant wait though

  11. quiet on here tonight..calm before the Storm..

I don't think I'm going to make the 23.00 gfs charts tonight....Im sure they wont change and go down hill

Still trying to bloody pack and iron etc. Only as far as T shirts. Price you pay for working 14 hr days week before hols. Will be knackered tomorrow

Pat did you say youd be at the hotel for 6?

  12. Hi John...

    I have a ASUS EeePC 1000H...

Will this run straight off a cigi lighter connection...

On the back its states it is +12v..3a...36w

Just a bit worried about the Polarity

    any idea mate...cheers

Pat, i'll check this out later as i'm being hammered at work at the moment. Even though its 12V I wouldnt recommend running off a cig lighter as its not regulated. Atleast with the interters it regulates etc. I'll come back to you later

  13. Thanks very much! I dont have a clue how to check the polarity though?

No Probs its easy. If you look at the label on the existing power supply it will have one of the following 2 symbols on it.

    If its got this one

    powerplug-positive.jpg

It means that the tip or pin (bit in the middle) is positive + and the barrel is Negative - . This is the most common.

    If its this one

    powerplug-negative.jpg

It means that the tip is negative - and the barrel is positive +

You attach the right size connector for your laptop to the main unit in one direction for positive tip and the oposite direction for negative tip. Its marked clearly on the unit which is which.

  14. Guys, i wonder if anyone can help me.

I'm still looking for the car charger for my laptop but i cant seem to find anything good. The laptop is a Packard Bell Easynote A8 (19V, 3.42A).

I have only found one adaptor so far and it comes in at £50+ p&p! http://www.mdsbattery.co.uk/shop/productpr...epartmentID=111

I have found this one for £25, voltage/ampage is correct but i have no idea if the power tip will fit? http://www.whichlaptop.co.uk/product-searc...&subcatid=7

I have also found this universal one at £30, the output is 6A max, but it doesnt say anything about minimum like a few others i have. Think it would be ok? http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=44736

I would be grateful if anyone could help, i'm a bit mixed up now!

    Ross,

Your notebook takes a 2.5 x 5.5 mm B type plug so the Maplin option will do the trick and probably the quickest to get since you can pick it up in store. you dont have to worry about the minimum amperage as long as you dont exceed the maximum. You just need to make sure you set the voltage to be exactly the same, in this case 19 V (adjustable) and your not exceeding 6 amps (or 65 Wats approx at that voltage). you'll also need to make sure the polarity is correct.

Maplin also do this one which will work fine with your notebook and will also charge USB peripherals and phones / ipods etc at same time. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=223912

It does not have the same wattage as the one you've suggested but has more than enough for your notebook, has right connector and is a newer model. I'm bringing one if these over for Ian's HP Notebook. Up to you which one you choose, just be carefull to set the voltage to 19 V and check the polarity on your existing power supply (normally positive tip, negative barrell) but check anyway to be sure before you plug in.

if you have any other questions let me know

Agree with dogs though, if in doubt wouldnt be any harm to bring the notebook into the store

  15. Fab.
