  1. Anyway, just to point out guys, we are still testing so there are one or two bugs to sort out but were almost there. Thinking I'll change the camera also. Was a bit of a haze coming down and wasnt that bright when testing. Pity, was beautiful all dat here. lighting wass probably more like driving into a supercell anyway  Thanks for helping us test this!

  2. Hi Cookie,

They are special weather radios. They operate on the FM bands but can’t be picked up on a standard FM radio as its uses frequencies in or around 120 MHz (I could be wrong on the frequency). They have about 12 different channels; each channel is for a different region. You can get the weather radios for about 20 dollars in wall mart or the like. You can also pickup the same broadcasts on XM Radio.

  3. OK, here's my stuff so far. I'm sure there will be more....

    1 Dell Latitude D530

Home made lightning trigger addon that plugs into strikealert.

6 way UK / Ireland socket board with US plug

  4. LOL. Cant keep anything quiet here Yeah, I've converted a one of the portable StrikeAlert thingies into a trigger for a Canon 450D. But proof will be in the puddin. In Early tests I've been able to photograph the electronic ignition for a gas hob in daylight. I think it might be a bit sensetive for over there, but we will see. If it works well I'll publish some build instructions.

God I'm in bad need of a storm now!!

    Roll on April!

  5. Just had a real good idea with cards...........Would be cheaper to buy an external HD at say 400gb at around £45.Then just move all vids and pics every night over to drive........would work out cheaper than buying many cards

Would defo work out cheaper Dogs. Thats what I'll be doing. One little thing about external HDD's though is that if your copying all your photo's / video to one drive and then formatting your camera media, pretty much all your eggs in one basket. Ext HDD's aren't so good with shock either, where as solid state media such as SD or CF are much better in that regard. I'll be backing up my data to external HDD and I'll also make sure I'll have ample space on my notebook HDD to store a seperate copy of same until I get home. I'll try and make sure both travel seperatlely

  6. this hail is out of this planet...45 secs in..

love to witness Hail like that..but not on my head

Good old Reed Timmer. He's a nutter. There is a good chance you'll bump into them when out on the chase this year. They had a contract with Boeing last year to collect large hail when on the chase and preserve it for analysis by Boeing. One of his guys (Chris Chituck or something I think) had to jump out with helmet and padding etc any time they were being hammered by large hail to collect the stuff. Very funny to watch on Storm Chasers Season 2

  7. Yeah I know what you mean about getting nothing done dogs. Last year I wasn't so bad becalse I only deciided to go chasing about a month before the first chase, so it was really only a month of being unproductive, but I decided to go on this trip ages ago so I'm basically screwed. Needless to say, wife and boss (is there a difference  ) are not happy campers!

  8. Yeah, getting really exited about it now myself, I'm dreaming about chasing every night, some of the dreams are really weird but I wont get into that  . I've been meaning to put some of my own footage up from Tour 1 08 all year, just finding it hard to get down to editing. Will get something up this week.

Paul, the countdown to stormchase 2009 in your sig, is that an automatic countdown or are you modifying it daily. If its automatic how do you do it?

  9. :):D:D Mark

Did no-one tell you that after Chasing Supercells from 3pm until 8-9pm we then position ourselves about 50 miles East of the Supercells and let them come to us, they usually produce a 3-5 Hour Lightning display until 2-3am in the Morning from an MCS Or a Violent Squall Line with Bow Echoes :):D

And we drink lots of beer while watching them. Heaven!

  10. Hi all,

We've decided to go with Jurys Inn on Cork for the accommodation. Probably the cheapest we can get being in the heart of the city. It works out at €79 on Friday and €89 on Saturday per room.

It works out cheap enough since we can have 2 - 3 people per room. As few of have been on via PM and have booked allready, Paul S, Nick F, Ian C and Stu_London and myself.

For anyone else who hasnt made arrangements yet, you can book online at http://www.jurysinns.com/ Probably best to organise sharing arrangements between yourselves either here or PM. Booking can be done with any major credit card the card is only for guarantee purposes. So no payment will be taken from the card used to book, basically you can split the bill etc with whoever your sharing with etc, or you may not want to share, whatever. Calcellations can be made up untill 2:00 PM on check in day so if anyone needs to pull out for whatever reason or if we end up with an extra room etc we have plenty of time to cancel the room without penalty.

Hope this is OK with everyone. Let me know if you have any questions. <_<
