  1. Did you get to watch it from your window?! Here in Seer Green it was light rain and distant lightning for ages till I just got in the car and headed into the belly of the beast. I know there was a later cell when I was coming back from Marlow that hit the Chalfonts/Beaconsfield/Seer Green because when I got to Pyebush ROundabout Beaconsfield and then to Seer Green there was some crazy flooding at the usual spots. Unbelievable rain though never seen such intensity.....
  2. Pal that was bloody unreal. Got home a short while ago, never seen rain so intense, and the lightning was bloody amazing! Basically I'll run through everything. About half 9ish I started seeing lightning every couple seconds to the S, SW, looked at net-weather and saw the storms on their way from W London, but as per, the stormshield of Beaconsfield and the Chalfonts was in full effect once again! Anyway, spent 10, 15 mins looking SW out the window and then just thought sod it I could bolt it now down the M40 onto the A404 Marlow way, and maybe head further south/west. Anyway, soon as I hit the M40 the lightning was in full view....unbelievable blinding flashes! Then I got to the A404 by the big roundabout in Wycombe and tbh it was NASTY to drive on! Rain like I've never seen before. I was doing 30 or so, surface water everywhere, every so often some BMW or t*t in a fast car would drive past much quicker and I just sighed....anyway, got to Marlow, torrential rain and lightning the whole way there.....parts of Marlow were a bloody torrent. I drove through the high street and started going down some road (yes down, a slight gradient) and noticed some dude turning around, so even though I have a 4x4, means nothing vs feet of water so I turned round too as made more sense to go back where I've come from up hill rather than drive to the bottom of a road where water is flowing down like Niagara effing Falls! Anyway, by the time I got back on the A404 to Wycombe it was still raining heavily but surface water had subsided slightly. Got onto the M40 home and drove past some t****r who'd taken a Lambo out on the M40 only to cause a lane closure and have a group of police cars at the side of the road with him....when will people learn?! It's like the beamers and other RW drive cars you see in the ditch on snow day....saw it once near me and just laughed, they don't know how to drive in these conditions..... By the time I got back to the village though, all was not over.....In fact the deepest water I had to drive through was in a notorious dip down the bottom of some lane and some dude with a hatchback was pulled up hazards on. I literally struggled in my jeep, battery light came on and all, but the jeep got me home as it always does come rain, snow or mud. What a night!!!!! Unfortunately, I have no DSLR shots or freeze frames of bolts, but I have numerous videos and freeze frames of flashes, mostly to the sound of Metallica.....lol.
  3. OMG.....WOW!!!!! Just drove through the most insane rainfall and lightning I have ever seen.....NASTY!!!! Currently near Marlow and Henley in Berks/Bucks.....many roads starting to flood in Henley and A404 was mad!!!! Got much iPhone footage of strikes (hopefully) within phone slot and a lot of swearing.....MANIC!!! No way was the strike rate 10ish per min as it was saying, it was every second or two!!!!
  4. JUst come back to this forum and gonna quote myself.....so this beautiful Cumulonimbus ended up bypassing NE of here moving WNW and all we got in the storm shield of the Chalfonts and Beaconsfield was light rain and some rumbles!!! Thoroughly uneventful while I was mowing the lawn. So EXACTLY the same as yesterday, those big cells that smashed the Hatfield, Luton and Dunstable area did the same.... And to rub it in....just had my dinner half hour ago and could out of nowhere see almost constant flashing to my N! Same place....Luton and bloody Dunstable again! Getting predictable now.
  5. Woah this is heading almost overhead I think. Can hear rumbles!!! Looking E to London
  6. Thanks for your insight pal, very interesting! Fingers crossed for more storms later
  7. Is it me or is that Cambridgeshire cell moving fast as a tortoise?! Every time I've refreshed the radar it's just lingering there!!!!!!
  8. Looks like the Kent/Surrey/South London stuff is dying a death. Yawn
  9. Those storms in Kent.....they appear to be moving WNW to me. Are they likely to gain intensity over London because of the urban heat island effect, or not?
  10. The cells around Cullompton S Devon and Winchester look tasty! Some heavy precipitation there. Exploded in Kent now. Think those cells are going moving WNWards so will be to the SW of S Bucks. Bugger!
  11. BLOODY HELL!!!! Anyone looking at lightningmaps?! Look at East Grinstead - Tunbridge Wells area, just exploded on there, and on NW radar there's barely anything for that area, just some blue and green! Could be a biggen!
  12. Storms firing on the Surrey Hills! How could I have guessed...... So there's been a lot of talk about storms forming on the M4 corridor and further south in Hants, Dorset and further westwards..... Anyone got any idea if south Bucks (just W of Gerrards Cross) is a good position?! I've seen a lot of different opinions/forecast predictions with some focusing further south and others focusing more towards Oxford and westwards.
  13. Before I go sleep, check this guy's channel out on YouTube, he has some great storm footage and is a mountain of knowledge! This video will make everyone here including me envious lol.
  14. Nah, surely tonight a Kent Corker just for Mitch! Personally I'm hoping for a "Bucks Banger" but I'm about to hit the hay so......
  15. Jesus Christ! I mean I got in my Mum's effing renault (temp insured while my car was being serviced) on Mond night chasing storms, only to breakdown and fork out £150 to the RAC.....but that's nout compared to what you've said! I think we should have a Mitch Perrott fundraiser......get this man a return ticket to Oklahoma City and VIP access to a pick-up truck with all the latest dopplar radars and lightning trackers!!!!! I think you deserve it lad!
  16. Ok I don't have facebook these days but I did ten years ago at college, and if anyone here remembers those days, before all the pages and their "likes," you used to have groups..... Well, if it was them days I'd say we should have a collective net-weather effort and make a group titled: "Give Mitch Perrott a Thunderstorm!"
  17. Some photos from today's (Wednesday 12th) storms looking E towards London and NE towards Watford/Dunstable/Luton:
  18. Evening all! Went for a mini storm chase earlier after those cells exploded across the South Downs, Surrey Hills and London area.... Left the house in south Bucks about 4:30 with Ivinghoe destination. It's a great lookout point in all directions about 230m up. Unfortunately by the time I got there, just after 5 the storms had moved a little too far to the NW of there, but it was a toss up between drive a huge distance on the M40 or M4 or do a 40 mile round trip to a known good hill spot. I opted with the latter as I recently bought my first place and I'm eternally skint at present. I didn't miss everything though! Just after half 4 Wendover way in the Chilterns I drove through the most intense rain and largest drops ever, pea-marble sized hail (thank God my windscreen is Ok, perhaps a few tiny chips) and some VERY close strikes, to which the thunder was deafening, so it wasn't a bad early evening. Looking at the radar, Hatfield really took a pummelling earlier from that cell. Fingers crossed for more for the SE tomorrow!
  19. Pics are nowhere near as good as on my DSLR but attached for now all from my IphoneSE. Huge storm looking E over London. Can hear rumbles and just saw a flash.
  20. Exactly this! And for the UK, it's quite unusual right, to see such low shear at the moment?
