Saturday 20th February weather observations
magicpatch replied to Summer Sun's topic in Spring Weather Discussion
Mostly cloudy, sun peaks though now and then but quickly replaced with some thicker cloud. Breezy, I think the 16c the BBC plopped over London as a whole won't be reached here, especially with the current breeze and cloud. Dodgy temperature sensor in the garden says it's 11c here right now. -
Unsure what to expect this weekend, it's a cloudy start, thicker at times, sun peaks though for a bit then then the cloud catches up, about 11c outside but a keen old breeze. BBC are sticking with 'sunny intervals' which are few and far between so far, MetOffice seem to think mostly cloudy all day apart from a small break in the cloud between 2-3pm but both seem to increase the (small) chance of light rain though-out the afternoon. Edit: I know it' all automatically updated by computer, but the MO has now changed around here to 'sunny intervals' all day but has also increased the wind gusts this afternoon to 40mph early afternoon. It's a far cry from last weekend that's for sure!

The weather has flipped for this weekend, the warmer day looks more likely to be tomorrow now rather than Sunday. Looks like a more boring day today, lots of cloud, chance of light rain at times it seems. Seems to be a chance of 14c or so around here tomorrow, breezy but looks like more chance of the cloud burning back where-as Sunday now seems to be cloudier and 11-12c, bit like today! Edit: Even the BBC forecast for around here has increased the cloud for the entire weekend now, they still are on the warmer side of the forecasts, 16c Sat, 14c Sun.

Thanks for the replies all, I know the BBC Forecasts do seem to be way-off at times, I presume this is down to their change of data provider a while back, I don't really follow them anymore I have to say, I seem to go more with the MO and double check that with what NW has up. They get it correct now and again, but their accuracy does seem to be a bit hit-and-miss. The rain has stopped here (for now) so going out for a long-ish walk into town, and a local park to get some much needed air. Although I'm finding my walks are getting earlier and earlier in the day which means I need to find things to do in the afternoon!

Any thoughts for this weekend in South London? Looking at the MO/BBC/NW all seem to agree that Saturday is likely to be breezy now, and potentially a bit damp/wet at times to what was forecasted a few days ago. BBC seem to be going for the milder option. Sunday looks to drier, but both MO/NW seem to have it at around 12c around here with keen breeze still, where as the BBC seem to be out on their own opting for 16c. Is this a case of the BBC doing their usual optimistic forecasting on temps, only likely to downgrade them nearer the time?

Finally gathering the energy to get out the house for a wander - seemed it's my fault and I should have believed the forecasts as the cloud is building now, and if the wind is anything like yesterday it's probably going to get a bit cooler out there due to the sun going and this nagging cold breeze - although the BBC is suggesting it will be 16c next Saturday which will be a bit of a change, although a lot (and probably will) change throughout the week!

We're back to the light snow of yesterday around North Croydon now, garden temperature sensor is hovering around +0.6c but its noticeable on even the roads around here with the smaller amount of traffic there's a clear tarmac path developing. I guess unless we're set for another snow event this evening this will be the best it will get?

Similar here, the intensity is higher but the flakes are still relatively small. It's now covering grass, cars which haven't moved etc. but pavements and roads are still generally clear. -

Had enough waiting for snow fall to settle so I'm going out for my walk, it looks freezing cold out there but off I go! -

Sounding like a broken record, same old here, lots of snow falling from the sky but as soon as you look down, it just looks like it's been raining for hours and hours. Radar suggests a more heavier section might pass over us shortly, but behind that just looks like more of the same. -

Heavier spell here now, but still very little settling. Garden temp is around 0.7c. -

Probably approaching a couple of hours of light snow here now, there's zero settle. The automatic forecast on the MO seem to suggest we won't be below 0c here until early afternoon, and they've pushed the 'heavy snow' forecast back (again) to 7pm tonight. -

Still very light snow here, skies are brightening if anything, nothing lying anywhere, just looks wet! -

Just started here, very fine flakes at this moment, but can't see it laying as it's so wet! -

Just had a peek outside, pretty much nothing going on. It's windy and cool for sure, but little to nothing of the stuff they call snow. -

The ITV Weather seemingly pushed everything further east for tomorrow! Looked very little reaching here in Croydon. -

Has the forecasted changed overnight? It looked pretty awful for today and from tomorrow afternoon, but now it seems the heavy rain will clear these parts by lunchtime today to not much at all tomorrow? Or is this weekend still a lot of now-casting?
