Absolutely nothing here in long eaton, we’ve had one single day of snow so far this winter I just want a couple of days of heavy falling and lying snow !
What day was that? There has been no lying snow in Belper. Its starting to send me a bit mad. This winter is like some fiendish torture.

I seem to remember these events were more prevalent in the 90s (growing up in North West, near Bolton) I can remember several rain to snow events during High School days and the ensuing school closure and bus chaos - probably 4 events between 91 - 97, with back edge snow from systems moving south east over the region. Seemed to stop happening after that - every event became a front edge, with mixing from the Irish sea meaning nothing but cold rain anywhere west of higher parts of Rochdale, while Huddersfield would get a pasting! Found this scenario similar to those 90s event, albeit with an exceptionally sharp temperature gradient and possibly the fastest rain to snow transition I've ever witnessed.
Yes I'm from Rochdale so recognise all that. But, what I find odd about today is that, in the events you describe above, the cold air progressed east. Today, in Belper, there wasn't a problem with precipitation. It just never got cold. Even when the front had been and gone. And it remains several degrees colder 5o the west even now. Odd..

It's got to be relatively unusual right? A cold front coming in from the west with the west always remaining in much colder air than the east? Odd set up for UK that right?

And now it's stopped. December - several miles too east.. Early Jan - several miles too south. Today - several miles too east and south. Boo hok

Belper weather update : I got very excited by a few flakes and walked up to highest ground nearby (220 metres). IKR. Sleet remains that, perhaps very wet snow in bursts. Immediately melts on any surface. It remains a winter of intense frustration locally. I realise weather is incredibly complex but why the warmer air is putting up more of a fight here than it did in the west defies my understanding. Sad, irritated face.

Weather update: Still pouring down with rain in Belper. I excitedly await the first sign of sodding sleet. #notirritatedintheslightest

Squall passed through a good 30 minutes ago. Why isn't the cold undercutting as quick as it apparently did in the west?

Still hasn't turned and band rapidly weakening. Cannot believe the difference in snow this year between here and places 10 miles west of me every single time.
I think the Gods are toying with us. Playing us East Midlanders as fools. It's all some kind of big weather conspiracy

Just for the avoidance of any sodding doubt it is sodding pouring down with sodding rain in Belper

Why is the sleet line not moving further East on netweather radar...
It's absolutely bloody maddening. I think this winter is going to see me off

All weather apps had and have Belper under a decent - 2 frost last night with temperatures struggling to scrape over 0 degrees today. The reality is, even on the highest 200 metre plus ground in the locality there is no ground frost to speak of. Frustrating and perplexing. Childish I know but, for someone of my age - 48, to live in modern Britain where even to get ice on high ground in January seems a desparate marginal struggle, it's like the fundamental physics of the Earth have changed! Grrr.

Too mild in Belper to settle. Sleety stuff. Even on high ground, steady drip drip and very wet snow at best. Temperatures of met office seem off to me. Been on zero degrees for hours but my car, and the evidence around me, says 2 degrees
-
Ha ha. Literally as i posted that, the Met have now downgraded the forecase to mere sleet

Big upgrade for snow risks in the East Midlands this morning. Metoffice calling all snow. Could it be time for the East to strike a blow against the tyranny of this West (Midlands) dominated winter so far?! FREEDOM

This west Midlands thing is starting to get a bit annoying. I'm trying not to get annoyed.
