  1. 5.6 quake registered in Saudi Arabia on the USGS email alert. depth of 10km in the same area as the previous shocks.
  2. Not to mention the fact you dont have to keep stopping every 15 miles at a Toll Booth on the Motorway, unlike in France where you could be spending 5 minutes queued at these things as the Truckers/Cravanners/Commuters are all going places. The UK "Season" Ive found generally lasts from June-August with the biggest of the storms between these 2 months, but it all depends on when we get Azores Highs and how quickly they break down. But that'd be the beauty of UK storm chasing, were all ready here in the country and would only take a day to organise something and then 5 hours to travel there.
  3. What about UK Chasing? often enough storms break out first in the South and Migrate Northwards as the day progresses and it only takes 5 hours at best to get from Manchester to London (depending on Traffic.) A few Minibuses and Recon points organised and you could have yourself a British chase team right there, It would be difficult obviously for anyone further North than Lancaster or as far South as Cornwall but you could have 2 sets of teams which set off in the morning at the "pick-up-point", then gun it down south and wait for the storms to begin. Its not like Tornados, FC's, Hail, Frequent Lightning, Possible Supercells, and other Phenomeon dont occur here in the UK in Summer we all know it often does. Many people like myself dont drive and would happily pay 30 quid for a days chasing (or however much it would estimate to cost.)
  4. Yep your right, just got a reply from SOHO saying the artefact is just a dead pixel, I searched the movie archive for the past 24 hour images and sure enough its dead-centre as the sun is still rotating. At least I managed to get the Solar Scope out for 10 minutes in the garden (even if I was practially looking at nothing there lol.)
  5. Is it a dead pixel or is there another sunspot just to the bottom right of the Suns centre? about the same size as this new one thats on the upper Right corner.
  6. 14.9'c in Buxton at 11:57am however looking at the Visible Satellite there seems to be a cloud-shield coming in from Wales which will drop the temperature by 5'c should it make it this far inland. There was Overcast Mist from the irish Sea forced me to bed at 3am last night as I was watching the Lyrid Meteor Shower, Unfortunately I wasnt up in the early hours to get a morning temperature reading at home, but Buxton recorded a minima of 2.3'c overnight.
  7. Temps have been 2'c above predicted max on the GFS, and this coming week temps of up to 21'c are forecast so 23'c, possibly a isolated 25'c is likely anywhere in the South. With temps seemingly to drop off by Monday.
  8. Buxton managed 20'c exactly today so here in Whaley Bridge i'd imagine we would have been slightly above that temperature. Since past 1pm however Topographic Convection has limited the temperature and its been back down to 18'c in Buxton. I'd imagine without this High over us there would have been some real good storms kicking off here by now, but ive managed a bit of a tan in the garden so I cant complain too much
  9. Bloody Alaskan weather eh lol. Is it ALWAYS cloudy there. The CI cam is getting darker noticeably every refresh however.
  10. Finally a clear summit view of a Eruption today on Redoubt on the AVO website (Image archive.) Taken from the Hut webcam.
  11. Lol whoops, I was thinking Cleveland was a little way off lol (was trying to remember what CI stood for.) Heres a quick diagram for what im seeing myself in the picture ive uploaded, the Ash cloud is extremely hard to distinguish between the murk and overcast sky, but believe me its there. [
  12. I can make it out on the Cleveland Webcam right now as the sky has briefly cleared. EDIT- quick picture ive caught and enhanced showing the Ash cloud.
  13. Cleveland webcam just shows a bank of nothing in the distance. If only the visibility was 10 miles further afield, we could be seeing the edge's of Pyroclastic flows..argh the frustration
  14. Heres hoping they'll get some Recon flights up above the clouds in the coming few hours.
  15. Possibly the ash-cloud has collapsed in on itself which only means Pyroclastic flows, which I believe Redoubt is notorious for, aswell as Lahars which are also being warned about for communities downstream of the Volcano.
  16. AER Weather Bulletin WWAK71 PAFC 231040 NPWAER URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ANCHORAGE AK 240 AM AKDT MON MAR 23 2009 AKZ145-231600- /X.EXT.PAFC.AF.Y.0001.000000T0000Z-090323T1600Z/ SUSITNA VALLEY- INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...TALKEETNA...WILLOW...CANTWELL 240 AM AKDT MON MAR 23 2009 ...ASHFALL ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM AKDT THIS MORNING... PEOPLE IN AREAS OF ASHFALL SHOULD SEAL WINDOWS AND DOORS. PROTECT ELECTRONICS AND COVER AIR INTAKES AND OPEN WATER SUPPLIES. MINIMIZE DRIVING. LISTEN TO YOUR RADIO STATION FOR FURTHER INFORMATION. -Ive tried to find anything on IR RADAR images but no luck so far.
  17. Lol about time, I see AVO has gone to Red, cant see anything on either Webcams though. Only 2 hours or so until Sunrise in the region though. Will be good to see what damage the eruptions have done to the crater, or if its still ongoing by the time dawn comes.
  18. 7.9 mag Earthquake, Tonga, in the same vicinity as where that Undersea Volcanic Eruption was occuring earlier today. It happened at a depth of 6 km undersea so im wondering is possibly seawater could have got into the magma chamber and forced a explosive eruption?
  19. It was such a warm day here in the Peak District that I decided to take the camera outside and snap some shots of Spring, even went for a 2 hour ramble across the Reservoir and Farm-tracks to see what I could find. Heres the best of what I managed to get. The first 3 are taken at my house and the Blackbird I caught as I was walking along a Footpath (almost caught me unawares.)
  20. Temperature got up to just past 14'c today despite the cold wind. Im lucky this time of year because the sun comes through my window from Midday until Sunset so I get a months "tanning" ahead of everyone else lol. So I'll be out in a t-shirt by the time April comes along and it generally wont bother me (of course I wear sun-cream when it gets stupidly hot though in the mid-summer day sun around June/July.) But I usually take all the neccessary precautions anyway such as wearing a hat and avoiding the Midday sun. By the time my Metal festival (Bloodstock) comes around in August im back to just wearing t-shirts again without the sun-cream, I still wear my hat though and drink gallons of water. Ive only ever been burn whilst on holiday (South France and Turkey.)
  21. Light snow has been falling here now since 1.20pm from convective showers that have been building up since the morning. Looking at the Radar it seems theres more to come.
  22. The town below Galeras is built upon Pyroclastic flows that have origionated from the Volcano, I think you are wrong in your assumption The Pit in assuming Galeras is incapable of destroying this town as any moderate eruption from the peak would sent a collapsing flow down the flanks and over flow beds upon which the town has been built upon. Shetland your reports and anlysis are much welcome and you shouldnt let one member get to you, especially when they dont know the full facts and probobally got their info from Wikipedia anyway. A good read on Galeras is a book called "Surviving the Volcano" by Stanley Williams. Which is his own personal account of being inside the Crater as Galeras erupted in a small explosion in 1993.
  23. They had re-runs of the series this afternoon, including the infamous Greensburg programme. I have to say seeing that brought a tear to my eye, and brought a bit of reality back to the show. Its one thing seeing pictures of it on the net, but when your with a group of chasers who had called it on the day but completely missed, then drive right though the day after. Jeees. I only got to see that one show as mum wanted to watch Tennis, but I'll be watching the new series religiously.
  24. *BREAKING* Although maybe co-incidental 2 significant fireballs have been seen across seperately over Kentucky in the US and Italy. The US fireball is significant in that a eyewitness who has said theyve seen Satellite debris re-entry before confirmed it was most likely a Satellite entering the atmosphere. The Italian sighting which is verified by 2 sky-watch cameras has been estimated at mag -16 and a possible Earth impact. Picture of the Italian mag -16 fireball Seems a bit co-incidental that 2 re-entering fireballs have been seen on the same night, both highly bright magnitudes and days after the Satellite impact over Siberia.
