  1. What I have seen and read to date, this 1000 year event is more for Eastern European, in particular Russia... Should it happen.

I believe weather patterns are changing, as they have done over over the millions of years this planet has existed.

I do feel this is ramping in its purest form. If people where able to predict the weather with such clarity, boards like this would not exist.

What we get, is what we get. Personally, I never look beyond 24/36 hours in advance and yes it can be exciting with the POSSIBILITY for snow.

Nothing like the weather to cock up peoples plans.....

After being unemployed for sometime and only recently secured a job in London (start this week), I am dreading it, if it snows big time down here (more than an inch). They just cannot cope with it all and they never, learn lessons from it all.

Getting back on topic, how many times last winter were peoples expectations dashed with a updates 24/48 hours out... Ran out of fingers!

  2. It was strange. I'm thinking it may be industrial pollution trapped in the very cold damp air above, with all the molecules clustering together the weight is too heavy to be supported and so falls to earth.

Or more to the point 'ice' (hoar frost) falling off trees. Happened here.

  3. I cannot see why people are getting so excited about a 'forecast' which is at the minimum 6 days away and we all know it will change to the usual over-cooked and all will be disappointed.

Especially when they cannot get it right 12 hours before the event.

I must be honest, RAF Brize Norton's Metoffice has got the forecast correct for the last 9 days.

Like a lot of people, I have given up seeing snow. Has been forecast here (except Brize's forecast) on more than occasion only for it to do everything expect Snow.

I will be pleased to delete this post if it snows on the 05 Jan 10.

And why would the Met Office put out a Be Aware warning for - Snow showers are expected to affect many areas but especially coasts and hills exposed to the north. The showers may be heavy and give fresh accumulations of 2-5cm in some places and locally 10cm.

Icy patches on untreated surfaces may become widespread.

    AND NOT EVEN FORECAST SNOW.

I will accept the Icy patches on untreated surfaces.

Have to laugh otherwise it will grind you down.

  4. Good advice re the forecast.

Tell her to go to the rac/aa sites for advice in driving in snow.

Always best to drive in the highest gear possible. Leave at least triple distance from the car in front.

Avoid jerky movements, apply brakes gently or even use the gears to slow down - avoid sudden braking (if possible).

Pull away from snow or ice in 2nd gear, avoid high revs.

Best of luck and I am sure your daughter will arrive home safely for Christmas.
