Lightest of sprinklings overnight, much colder today. Forecast for Sunday and start of next week looks very nasty. Met Office Deep Dive gave a good explanation on YouTube yesterday as to its origins. Edit: as I posted, the first warnings for wind have been issued, must be very concerning to raise this far out!

Little bit of snow north of Rhayader towards Llangurig this morning, but not much else. Temp actually reached 5c in Newtown this afternoon, which is warmer than anything we reached last week! Any snow melted by time I returned this afternoon. So far just standard winter weather, but far better than wind and rain - will keep checking the radar in hope!

Huge flakes coming down, lovely winter wonderland, fortunately our neighbour appears to be a snow fan and are leaving their outside light on!

Bless you, sounds like Mr Hog has well and truly landed on his feet finding your shed - dinner and bed! Hope he decides to spend the winter with you! With you feeding the cats regularly, if he does wake he will have food available too, so stands a very good chance if making it to spring. Already - 7 here, seriously cold, hibernating seems a good idea!

The Electric Car - saving the climate or just polluting in other ways?

Yes, these are already popping up in places like Sweden. They can also have their own micro generation via a renewables source so they can separate from the grid. -

Super fast charging is already available in many countries abroad where charging your car takes 10 to 15 minutes at an EV charging station, not that different to a fuel station. As usual the UK is a slow adopter and makes these things very expensive where they do exist. I also agree I'm lucky I have a drive. On street charging technology is often not available, but destination charging is often an option with many workplaces now offering ev charging. Unfortunately, the cost of charging on the network has risen significantly due to rising energy costs in the last couple of years. Competition needs to drive this down fast and the government could also take action by reducing tax on ev charging, just as they have frozen fuel duty for many years. The charging network also needs to be simplified, but many are now contactless. EV manufacturers also need to focus on making their cars more efficient, the obsession with electrifying SUVs means these wedge shaped cars are horribly inefficient. It isn't perfect, but the technology exists to solve many of these issues and it is happening. Obstacles are often sadly political. -

That genuinely surprises me - what are their grumbles? I must admit I was nervous before getting one, I did a lot of research, but it has been a very good and financially advantageous decision. The car itself has blown me away. Would I buy one? Probably no, the technology is still developing very quickly, they are too expensive to buy and the EVs coming out now are even better still - but for the many of us these days who lease they make a huge amount of sense. It probably helps that I don't do very long journeys and can rely on a home charger - but if it can work for me in rural Wales I can imagine it would work in most places. -

No, why would I?? It tells me how far I have got to go just as a petrol car would? If you are running low you top up! In all seriousness, temperature and speed do affect range more than petrol and longer journeys take a bit of planning - but nothing insurmountable as public chargers have increased massively in the last couple of years.
