  1. Looks like a touch more on its way but will be very light if it reaches our parts.
  2. Had light grainy snow all through the day but slight rise in temps causing lying snow to compact and melting from rooves. Got some nice icicles forming now as the temps dropping away again. Have to say apart from up here which hit the sweet spot on Monday it really shows that only a n/ne flow cuts it unless v.close to Pennines. Have been very lucky as had five days of falling snow in the last ten which makes up for the last two years living in Spain. Still a good part of winter left and have a feeling another cold spell will hit our shores but hopefully more favorable next time. Edit: good to see our neighbors in Yorkshire getting decent coverings just shame it's fizzling out before reaching here.
  3. I was thinking same but radar shows we might be in the sweet spot relatively speaking looking at the wind vectors as wasn't meant to get this far north. My only concern is that it is just so light so a dusting may be the best for most.
  4. Much bigger flakes now as the biggish clump is passing through. Can go to bed happy now, with the curtains open again and one eye open.
  5. Reports in the Yorkshire thread sound promising and I think they started off with light stuff and now getting the heavier stuff. Hopefully will be a surprise in the morning as the fronts going to take a good few hours to all push through up our way. With current falling snow it's now 5 days in the last 10 I've had falling snow which is really lucky but feel the next few weeks could get v.interesting with the northern hemisphere having some unusual synoptics and vortex emptying into Spain.
  6. Very light snow here now despite meto not forecasting it getting this far up north. Radar looking ok too for through the night.
  7. Well it's a very slow moving front and looks like a lot still heading due north, fingers xd.Edit: Yorkshire thread reports a pasting and the speed its moving we might just get lucky as it heads up the a1.
  8. The radar looks like the white stuff might just make it into the north of the region, any reports from south of durham.
  9. Fingers crossed for the next round hopefully. Still have a feeling that if the Azores high stays out west anything could happen so not giving up hope yet. Barely above freezing today and the fields in dipton have held all their cover, though the snow has dried out which is strange as was perfect for snow balls yesterday. Hopefully will keep for a few more days. Seen a lot more gritters today but often the case, too late to matter. Its my dogs 1st month back in the uk after we lived in Spain for 2 years and can defo say he's a coldie like me
  10. 0c here and a nice crust forming on the snow for round 3 hopefully. The showers look to be coming on shore from Northumberland turning wintry then heading due south. There actually encircling where I am, doh.
  11. Winds seem to be veering around a mini low atm blowing the showers around.
  12. I hope not just spent an hour hauling 1/2 a tonne off the drive to get car out for work, was light work if you catch the snow early while still light and easy to push. Bring it on though as would prefer a region wide event whilst the cold has set in.
  13. Not sure if they're is much more snow to come tonight but the sky outside has that lovely orange salmon hue and reflecting of the snowfields. Something much missed and hope more get in on the action over the next few weeks. Hopefully if the Azores high can remain displaced more wintry interludes could prevail at short notice. Not expecting much melt on the hills for the next few days so should be some on show for any whightseeing. Edit: another light shower but mainly grapple. Nearly 10cm lying now so not bad and more forecast for Wed from meto. Might recycle the xmas tree for next year at this rate.
  14. Wise choice Cloud, the A692 running through Dipton was gridlocked and pure ice throughout the school run. If temps drop off could be tricky overnight. Showers look to be fizzling out before they get more inland but snow line dropping off towards coastal areas now that the low cell in the North Sea has formed.
  15. The traffic is again moving in both directions on A692 think the incline from Dipton to Leadgate was the main cause which seems to have sorted itself out now traffic moving over the salt. Snow line has dropped to about 50asl looking over the valley.
  16. Dont think North gets enough attention as we are all used to it as they say, shame the councils are not. I would avoid a692, not sure what its like from Chester le St but being a hardened Stanlier Im sure you will be fine.
  17. Warning for drivers in rush hour Gateshead to Consett. Roads A692 as I can see is now sheet ice, no movement west bound. Police reportedly are closing various routes with gradients due to the roads not been salted or washed away throughout the day. Stay safe and be prepared, ensure your tanks are full and have grit, spade, mobiles and essentials in cars. Seems DCC caught out again.
  18. Its difficult to say as it looks like a low pressure cell looking at the curve they are now making whereas earlier they were all easterly/n.easterly. I think it could be the two airmasses east and west of pennines bumping into each other. Would think with daytime maxes dropping away more would possibly be of snow and they are defo getting heavier up here.
  19. Havn't seen any all afternoon and most from overnight would have washed away. Is getting bad out there now, hope everyone stays safe on the roads and be prepared with a shovel or old floor matt to use as traction if stuck. There are only a couple of artery roads from the valleys and once one car gets stuck on both then higher regions at a standstill. Just seen 1st gritter go through east bound . A bit late as traffic west bound at a stand still which will make roads worse as snow likely to build up.
  20. A692 gridlocked and really heavy snow atm. edit: a692 (only lived on it for 7 years, doh)
  21. It is snowing again atm very heavily and not taking much for the main A roads to be totally white as salt has washed away so need to be careful and prepared for worst.edit: here's the a691 atm (slushfest)
  22. Stanley is at a similar elevation as I and atm I would imagine the main roads are fine (passable). Personally if you can avoid rush hour I would as so many drivers can't cope and many driving with most Windows covered in snow, fools. If there is another heavy fall as the temperatures drop away could be more of a concern as most roads in and out on gradients.Edit: really heavy snow again fyi.
  23. The radar does show up as sleet but its really heavy snow when they reach about 150-200m and they look to continue for a while. Not sure what effect the late afternoon will have as last night brought the snow level down to the coasts. As it happens I used to live on the other side of the Valley and was always jealous that the town on top of the other side of the Derwent Valley had visible snow when I had sleet as it was South facing so I when I saw a house for sale in the sweet spot I moved and never regretted it, even if I have to move 2 tonnes of snow to get to work sometimes.
  24. Still waiting for the council to recycle my Christmas tree. Think it will sprout roots very soon EDIT: A692 a white out now so drivers beware on road from Gateshead to Consett.
  25. Totally agree, the snow seems never-ending here and still really heavy. The slushy paths that iced up last night have melted and the new 5cm of snow is not settling on the slushiest ones so another treacherous dog walk this evening.Looking across the Derwent valley the snow line looks to be about 100m though expect a bit lower in the heavy showers. Edit:pics taken 15 min ago brrrr, even heavier now.
