  1. Aye, looks like the gritter has turned a right onto incoming, blooming gritters, hope everyone ok (and someone remembers to send out replacement gritter looking at weather turning bad up there, before more accidents occur.)
  2. Cheers WhiteXmas, (reminds me of the £300 bet I won this year, thanks to the GFS). the A692 outside my door white again (looks like councils not getting advice from the right resources as usual or using sparing handfulls) so glad I am off next two days, perfect dog walking weather as the white stuff is self cleaning and could well stick around if this continuous dumping carries on till morning.
  3. Sorry for hijacking just south of your border (as my fellow north easterners must be at work in morn or bored of the snow) but I am shocked at the radar pictures as last time I checked models and Meto yesterday everything was shown south or north of geordieland, yet we have had an hour of medium to heavy snow here and the radar looks like dumping for a few more hours. So was wondering what the track of this snow event is going to take as have heard a few mention this is a slow moving ppn. Anyhow those is southern/central scotland enjoy as it moves your way as this was a welcome surprise to me.
  4. Hail and Sleet here in Dipton, near Stanley looks like a good start to the main events, shame our council hasnt bothered filling any salt bins since last snow. Will be fun if lasts as long as expected. Enjoy Kev
  5. Hello all bit of a newbie to posting, after watching these models for the last 4 years, I am always intrigued and cant help but feel the joys and pains of all of those wishing for a return to 'classic' solar minimum winters This year has definitely been one of those and I am intrigued by the suggestion of this 'sausage' high as this is a term I have not heard over the years of being a spectator. What I was wondering is how often these types of highs verify and if anyone had any of the charts showing when they verified and can recall the outputs of such a high. Thanks again to all on netweather for providing us backbenchers with such an invaluable and exciting insight into our islands' unique weather.
  6. Yeah, the roads up here in dipton are covered which is firstday since cold spell gritters have lost the game. normally quite good as is main a road a692 for emergency vehicles. snowing moderately for last 15 mins.
  7. Brill photo Mark, I just got back walking dog when saw blue flash reflect off side of house. Though my blue led lights had blown given the amount of ice encrusting them. Luckily must have been the blue lightning, didnt hearany thunder though, unlike an hour ago.
  8. If the weather in SW scotland any indication of what is on your way. Good Luck, This is view 5 mins ago on webcam, strange though radar not showing it. But you may have a chance, we in the NE just got hit from the SE coming from Scotland and these wernt forecasted as usual but were pepping up on their way down, so you never know. traffic cams: Ayr http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/index.aspx
  9. The Jedburgh web cam which seems to show the line of path of the forthcoming snow for consett, stanley and s tyneside has been snowing non stop for 40 mis now. Tis looking good if lasts as long as it tracks SE. http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/index.aspx
  10. Just to show how cold it has been up here for ages: (icicles 90cm in length)
  11. scotland web cam link http://www.trafficscotland.org/lev/index.aspx. Something starting to fall in Jedburgh, must be on way soon. dipton 777asl
  12. Loikg at scotland live webcams there is something falling out of the sky around dunbland, livingstone although unsure if snow or rain due to trails on cams. Fingers xd for snow to top up the fields around here which still have about 20cm snow onthem (the length of a large labradors leg-havnt measured hence approximating). Heres to lamp posting. Kev Dipton, Stanley
  13. Had 12cm of fresh snow on car today, took 3 hrs to clear drive (work for emergency services so have obligation to work), but was shocked at lack of notice. Took my lab out for walk and the snow covered all of his legs so prob about 10 inches still lying, plus frozen stuff under his paw prints. This reminds me of when I was young, and snow was up to my waist though was a short 5 yr old at time. Good to see the solar year cycle coming back into fruition, shame the warming do gooders cant see the obvious. (check up last years old farmers almagnac who predicted 2010 being mega cold (predicted USA's record cold/snow over 1 year ago)
  14. I very rarely get involved in these model output discussions but i do appreciate the posts of all of those experienced members and over the years have been pleasantly surpised at the accurate interpretations of the models. This year to boot has been one of the most exciting with the GFS picking up on the current and still ongoing cold spell. However, even though the GFS had a blip recently am I not wrong in stating that it was the unmodified GFS, pre 15/12/09, that forecasted this spell at long/medium range and since the modified GFS came into fruition itis now struggling with short/medium range. Something I have been puzzled by this year is all of the IMBY posts, SE ANGLIA cold discussion has 21 discussion threads whilst NE has only 6, yet the NE have had treachourous snow events over a 2 week period with no thawing, and much like the BBC who fails to inform us of impending 15cm falls, (3 hours out) it seems that this forum is tending very much towards the IMBY (we need the low to sink south, it is only the north or east). What happened to impartial forecasting, do we further north only have the radar to rely on these days? Thanks TEITS and co who remember that members in the north also rely on forum members to anlyse model synoptics and provide reasoned forecats.
  15. Had a fair few of fine hail showers in last hour up here. Now turned into moderate snow with flakes getting larger. Starting to cover the few bare patches around.
  16. Paddy Powers paid out on Manchester, which would evidence that they possibly used radar images to verify result as there was pink on radar christmas night but no reports of snowfall on this forum. So good luck to all that had Manchester. Also can anyone confirm if bookies paying on Birmingham. Thanks to this site my Christmas pockets are £200 better off getting odds of 7/1 for Manchester days after the GFS hinted at this marvellous cold spell. Merry Christmas and a Snowy New Year
  17. Heavy snow for past 2 hours on and off, with couple of thunder storms thrown in for good measure. Last night was first time i've seen lightning during a snow storm. Amazing. Couple of pics showing a school closure and my poor frozen fish pond. Feels like they have been frozen in most of the winter.
  18. Im sure you wont be dissapointed multi cellular, there is hail on and off in dipton, not far from stanley, hopefully will provide underblanket for the main event to strike in a couple of hours. Enjoy
  19. Aye thanks, I'm very lucky have uninterrupted view across to Cheviots and those pesky blizzards have uninterrupted passage from the north, hence often find kitchen windows snowcapped. Though did get a shock on 4th when I opened front door to post delivery not realising there was a two foot drift wanting to get warmed up inside my house. Brrr
  20. How lucky have we been this year Mark, I'm up in Dipton, Stanley and I am so glad I moved to this snowy outpost. Here are some pics from the 4th and last night. Had a good 2 inches yesterday snowed from 3pm to 10pm. Fog setting in now, fingers crossed more of the same in coming weeks.
