  1. V gusty winds but not much heavier rain here, it's gone through now and looking a bit brighter. Just as well as local roads don't need anymore rain!
  2. Cracking storm this morning, torrential rain and some good loud roof shakers. This has been our second storm in December this year. We've had virtually no thunder and lightning for the last few years here so it's good to see, especially as the dog is starting to lose his hearing and doesn't react unless the thunder is overhead. He used to get in such a state I've dreaded having a storm because it's so distressing for him. Funny that the winter has created a lot of disappointment after the failed easterly yet down here we've had snow on Nov 4th, two thunderstorms and flooding, hardly a benign start to the season.
  3. Photos on the Dorset Echo website showing Burton Bradstock affected again.
  4. 48mm here since it started raining on Weds. I'm between Bridport and Weymouth btw.
  5. No, you're right from that chart. The trouble with my location is the forecast temperatures are always based on Portland so are always several degrees higher than they actually are. Very annoying at times. Just checked my forecast temperature on Netweather as 9 degrees, it's actually 3 outside. The met office used to be as bad but have improved lately.
  6. Surprisingly cold here this evening, I thought it would of started to warm up by now.
  7. Flood alerts issued for Weymouth rivers, I guess if the rain totals are as forecast then the other Dorset rivers will be included.
  8. A37 between Yeovil and Dorchester is closed due to snow according to the BBC website. I wonder if this is the earliest in the season when snow has caused a problem. I certainly can't recall getting snow here so early, we're lucky to see any most years. My sister who lives 7 miles away in a colder spot (I'm 1m inland) didn't see a flake but it was coming down in bucket loads here, very strange.
  9. My winter expectations have been met.............it's snowing!. We don't get snow very often here so to see some so early in the season is unheard of. Great, hope this bodes well for the rest of the winter.
  10. Unbelievable, huge flakes of wet snow falling. I'm right on the coast of South Dorset so unusual for us to get snow at any time!
  11. Some good photos on the wessex fm website, especially Burton Bradstock.
  12. Emptied another 40mm out of the rain gauge this morning and it was tipped over so I suspect it was even higher so at least 90mm in 36 hours. Still a lot of disruption locally due to flooded roads.
  13. Can't believe it's still raining. The River Frome has just gone at Dorchester, hopefully tomorrow will be better.
  14. Another inch in the rain gauge, 75mm since yesterday morning.
  15. Local radio has just reported that the rescue helicopter is rescuing people stuck on top of their cars in Burton Bradstock and Long Bredy. Its been very bad along the coast here due to incessant rain for over 24 hours. The rain is easing now.
  16. Been raining for over 24 hours now, no wonder the flooding is so bad around here.
  17. Emptied 50mm out of the rain gauge this morning and there is another 15mm in there now. Lots of flooding locally along the coast road but the road is now open.....i think!
  18. Hoofing it down here and it doesn't look like stopping for a while. Will venture out in a minute to empty the rain gauge.
  19. The squall line has just passed through here and the wind has dropped like a stone, quite amazing, just like being in the eye of the storm.
  20. I'm between Weymouth and Bridport. The wind has definitely picked up in the last hour and we're having some serious gusts now.
  21. Blowing a hoolie here just a mile in from the coast, dog in right state and hiding behind me on the settee! Just had a huge gust so I'm waiting to see the next max gusts from Portland.
  22. Thunderstorm here in south dorset.............dog in a right state! Monsoon rainfall, more has plopped out of the rain gauge than stayed in as it's so heavy.
  23. Excellent, thanks v much. I just wanted to confirm my recollections that it wasn't a particularly wet or cold month. I don't think it was much different further inland but perhaps somebody else knows differently.
  24. Yes, I think if it comes to legal action then he'll do this but at the mo he is just trying to establish whether it's worth pursuing and a heads up to their weather defence would help this decision.
