I'd love it if we had untold snow and it brought the UK to a standstill. Getting so excited, but I keep checking the model discussion thread to try and remain realistic.
-
As if Sheffield hadn't seen enough flash flooding recently!!
-
Out of curiousity, can anyone tell me which area of the UK is most prone today. Normally, someone posts a rectangle and then another rectangle inside that one! Cheers.

Looks like I could be in luck, massive dark clouds approaching my area here in Essex. Not sure if it'll have any storms in it, but it's what passed over from Stevenage by the looks of things. I shall report back with my findings...!
-
Yipee, I live in the red box! Bet I dont see much action though! Some dark looking clouds in the horizon, so we shall see if anything unfolds....
-
Well if you want guaranteed thunder and lightning, you need to move to somewhere like Florida. Or how about Rwanda/Congo region (believe the world's most thundery place or place with most lightning strikes?)
-
Still snowing here in Braintree, and snow has setlled nicely on everything. Best thing of all though....Orange sky !!
-
Just started snowing very lightly in Braintree. And there was me thinking it was all over and that Spring was on its way....
-
Are you serious?!?!? I'm in Silver End which isn't far from you but i've just got rain! Hopefully I'll get it next!
Well i live in braintree, and all I see is boring old rain too !

Forget 50pence pieces, they're now coming down in coasters !
-
still snowing in Braintree
is there no chance of an event for later now
Yes,can confirm it's coming down heavily in Braintree - 50pence pieces outside. Massive snowflakes. It's like Christmas!
-
Snowing and settling in Braintree. Not sure how long it will last though. Medium sized flakes.
-
I'm so confused (doesn't take much)....at the moment we still have lying snow, fairly dence fog and dropping temps - some say snow for Biggin Hill and others say rain. Experts, what are the chances?
Id say your chances are higher than most simply due to your high ASL. But whether the precipation actually reaches that far south of central london still remains a mystery. If it does, then you should be quids in.

Met office has downgraded for the SE. Spring is on its way now....!

Heavy Snow & Drifting Snow Fri 6 Feb
There is a moderate risk of a severe event continuing to affect parts of southern and eastern England. Further falls of snow are likely that may give additional accumulations of 2 to 5cm, perhaps 5-10cm locally. Drifting could occur in fresh or strong north or northeast winds.

Drifting Snow & Heavy Snow Fri 6 Feb
There is a low risk of exceptionally heavy snow across parts of central and southeastern England continuing from Thursday giving further accumulations, with perhaps more than 25cm locally for the whole event. Drifting may occur in fresh or strong north or northeast winds. As yet there remains considerable uncertainty in the areas more likely to be affected but further updates will be issued on the web as the situation becomes clearer.

Hmmm
Interesting new Update from the Meto for Thursday into Friday, Again this is a Synoptic Evolution we simply have not seen in a Long time in the British Isles which back up me saying yesterday this winter is the REAL Deal.
How many times have we have transitionary Snow for a few hours before the Mild wipes everything out in a few hours, what we now have is the good old days (The Ones you only read about in Weather Books) weather scenarios playing out.
Frontal Rain already across the Uk from a System to our South being Undercut by Biting Cold from the North and North East Turning the Rain pretty readily to Snow, If the Radar Returns are Strong this could be every bit as good as Sunday Into Monday. UKMO Now on Board with ECMWF & GFS, This will be nailed if it stays the same by Late Wednesday.
HOWS THAT FOR A RAMPEDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul S
Incredible stuff. Looks like Norfolk and Suffolk (who felt hard done by over the last 48hours) could get what they're looking for after all....
-
Could anyone please respond (sixth time i have asked) will we be getting more of this type of thing on Friday and over the weekend?
Gareth, thats all very much up in the air at the moment. Chances of anything developing is probably 50:50. For one, the direction will be different, if we get anything snowy it will be delivered by an Arctic wind, not Easterly. Will definitely be staying cold for the foreseeable week, but I would advise to check the models and model discussion thread for further updates nearer the time. At the moment, that thread is somewhat neglected due to all the current excitement! Once the snow stops though, trust me that thread will get busy again!

Still heavy snow in Chelmsford. Now 13cm
Fairly heavy now in Braintree. Think the further near the Essex coast you go, the more sleetier it might be.
-
Snowing again here in Braintree. bring it on !
-
Both runways at Heathrow have now been closed....
-
Yep thats the most i've seen in ages. I just hope the main event isn't sleet for us this afternoon.
It shouldnt be because we are not that close to the coast. Those near to the coast can expect more sleetier conditions. But dont quote me on it !
-
Around 4 inches in Braintree, and it's started snowing again now.
-
Think this forum could get quite busy later on today and tonight..... !
No grains here just yet.

I have to play sunday league football this morning...wish me luck!
