  1. This is what a decent easterly used to dump IMBY but these days the Pennines usually gobble the lot and our drought conditions seem to be getting worse it’s a good job that United Utilities has invested in the infastructure to take what little water this arid region gets.
  2. TBH we did get some snow then as we moved into this house in January that year and I remember clearing the drive and speaking with the neighbours for pretty much the first time while doing it. the amounts weren’t great though, probably about 6 inches although by current standards I suppose that’s a decent effort. the best February for snow here was 1979, not just for the intensity of the falls but the fact that they were so frequent and just piled up one on top of another.
  3. Got very little from it in this part of East Lancashire although no doubt it reinvigorated again as it crossed the Pennines and dumped massive amounts over Yorkshire
  4. And then the sunniest, driest spring for a gazzillion years which we could all enjoy without the slightest thought of anything stopping us. how quickly that changed
  5. It certainly couldn’t have been one of the mad threads loyal charts as it didn’t show anything for darn darf On the subject, that place really is unreal at times. a hour or so back someone from north of the M4 actually mentioned the amount of snow the Stoke area had over the last few days. It obviously didn’t go down well with one southern based poster who said he thought he dropped into the Stoke regional thread by mistake. richer than my mother in laws Christmas pud and the best belly chuckle I’ve have for a long while
  6. Charts posted in the mad thread show Sundays system much further north to the extent that we end up with rain and the snow reserved for the North Pennines and southern Scotland. dare I say that we need a southerly correction
  7. And then no doubt the much promised easterly will either not have enough umph to cross the mighty Pennines or have more of a NE element and drop south of the Peak District and plaster, yes you guessed it, the Midlands
  8. In fairness Chris, I wouldn’t be throwing the towel in if I lived in your part of the region or around Cheshire, southwards. I think you’ve a good chance of seeing something this weekend but for much of Greater Manchester along with Lancashire and Cumbria it’s looking more and more like another frustratingly missed opportunity. maybe better luck next week although it’s alway jam tomorrow.
  9. I’ve just had a warning telling me to remain in isolation until after 30th which means hopefully I can go for a walk in the snow on Sunday All I need now is some snow but it’s looking unlikely this far north.
  10. It’ll be sunny dry and cold for us so time to get the grass sledge out providing of course you have a nice hill within walking distance of home. then when your back home you can put the news on and watch some reporter frantically looking for enough snow to make a snowball in an area under a Meto amber warning.
  11. Obviously it depends on where your thumbs are though and with mine connected to hands under house arrest in East Lancashire they are definitely The one thing about this winter so far has been its predictability and although many can rightly say it’s been a good spell, for others including myself it’s been one let down after another. Yes we’ve had snow but at this altitude it’s hardly surprising but I’ve lost count of the number of times that we have found ourselves on the wrong side of every point on the compass and this weekend looks no different. good luck to everyone who gets something from the upcoming events but once again it looks like the M56 will be the northerly limit of anything but scraps. mine will be firmly
  12. Haven’t seen any forecasts or charts today so purely guesswork but I’d go for a Southerly tracking system with The M56 once again being the northern limit of anything other than scraps.
  13. Latest BBC forecast for Thursday is better suited for listening to rather than watching if it’s a snow fix you’re after. he was quite bullish about snow chances over high ground including that in our region but the graphics showed little white this far south with most being North Pennines northwards. that said though the area of white was smaller across the board than in the earlier forecasts but it’s all looking a bit borderline and certainly confusing.
  14. Looked to be some bright echoes over your part of the world.
  15. Some bright echoes crossing more northern parts of Lancashire at the moment, I assume it’s rain as you don’t often hear intense and snow in the same sentence in this region. as for Thursday, sorry but I think our side of the Pennines will draw the short straw again with decent falls restricted to high, and not so high ground in North and West Yorkshire while we get a sleety mix or snow quickly turning back to rain. Somehow we need everything to drop another 50 miles to the south and west but instead I just see a continuation of the form horse for the last few years of anything interesting always being just out of our reach. apologies for the pessimism, I could blame COVID but I’ve only had that for a few days but have watched good weather pass up by for years.
  16. Snowing up in this part of the historical county of Lancashire but not sticking
  17. I’m in the white bit where the two warning areas don’t quite meet so it looks like several hours of no for me
  18. Surprised they’ve dragged it further southwards although it’s looking very much like a high ground only event and by that I mean probably higher than myself. maybe a covering here as it gets going but I it’s yet another day with falling snow and if days with falling snow defines a winter then this one is shaping up into a rather special one. we just need a “special” fall of snow now rather than the default couple of cm’s.
  19. The lightest and most occasional of flakes starting to fall here now.
  20. Isn’t Sundays event for those darn sarf or was that more of a BBC hopecast
  21. Looking at the radar, the southern part of the front seems to be dying a death with all of the energy further north so for ourselves, it looks more a case of if anything falls at all rather than whether it will be wet of white.
  22. There were a few flakes of snow falling about 20 minutes ago which put the slightest of dusting on the parts of the drive which was clear yesterday but it’s stopped again now. at least it’s snow rather than mild, cold or freezing rain though.
  23. Same here although I can walk into West Yorkshire in 20 minutes so pretty much borderline
  24. Yeah we’re not too bad although both feel like we’ve been hit by a bus.
  25. Plenty of opportunity for some parts of the North to get a real dumping over the next few days but I think for most we’ll look back at a mixture of missed opportunities and sheer bad luck. I’ll keep the shovel handy just in case but somehow I think the I will be shovelling far more potential than actual snow. not that I can go anywhere when I’ve actually moved the snow
