Based on what people have seen over the past few hours is there much chance that I might get at least a covering by Saturday, this week has been so disappointing here
-
This was mentioned that the snow may turn to rain, its always difficult in these situations to get it right, better luck next time for us.
Les
Lets hope that later on in the week delivers for us, probably wont knowing our luck but hey...fingers crossed
-
People can take some hope from my situation, just 25 metres ASL and heavy snow continuing to accumilate nicely here. Over 10cm's again grass and tabletops, considerably less on pavements but certainly could be described as a very "generous covering". Still falling now, perhaps even heavier than it has been doing recently.
You are very lucky Polar Low enjoy it wont you and make a snowball for me

Ditto!
Are Beeb wrong then? I guess they must be but this was only 2 hours ago. I simply don't get it.
I think altitude is the key tonight, anything below 200m will struggle. I thought it would snow here until midnight based on what i saw this morning on the tv, but that has changed dramatically, having said that on n24 at 7.30 snow was shown in your area until midnight
-
It's been snowing here for hours but unfortunately it's really struggling to settle.
The temperature here has rised from 1 to 3 since I got home from work, guess thats the warm sector
Mild sector was forecast by the models... Hence the blue over your area.Yes but a couple of days ago it was definately saying it was going to stay South of the M4, what happened?
Anyway, looking at the map you posted, I do not see where the 40 cm the BBC are talking about at Ainley Top is coming from as it shows only sleet in Huddersfield. Are the Beeb simply wrong? They have sent their local (Hull) minor celebrity weatherman, Paul Hudson, there to witness the event!
I love weather but sometimes I am left completely flummoxed and this is one of those times. Paul Hudson was on Radio 4 at about 17:30...only a couple of hours ago.

I saw the forecast from Paul and he was in Huddersfield, they had tons of snow and he said the worst was yet to come for them

One word describes have I feel and that is depressed. We had very little snow and covering yes but thats it. Raining here now which doesn't help. Then theres the news I am sick of seeing all the snow that seems to be everywhere except here. It would seem the whole country had at least 1cm. Im very jealous.I really hope we see something a bit more impressive later on in the week
-
Got a nice dusting here not even a cm. I suppose that is better than nothing at all. Hoping for my this afternoon and that it won't turn back to rain
-
At last it looks like i've got a stream of snow showers coming towards me.
Also whilst waiting for the radar updates go and view the GFS 18Z.
Have a look at thurs/fri and then look at the remainder of the run.
You will never see a better model run ever again IMO.
I know I have seen it. Do you think that we might get more substantial sbow then aswell?
-
Looking at the radar it would appear that Hull and the east riding might bet a wee bit shortly
-
Not meaning to sound a noob, but what is the best place to view a local radar for Yorkshire? ps I dont have Netweather Xtra
Thanks
I'm currently using raintoday.co.uk. Its good because you can zoom in to our region. Hope this helps

Isobel Lang on Sky News said that for areas 'EAST OF THE PENNINES' there could be upto 6 inches (15cms) tonight followed by 6 inches (15 cms) tomorrow followed by a foot (30cms) from the band of snow moving North on Monday evening.
2ft!! TWO bloody foot of snow potentially by Tuesday pm.
I think I'll take that with a pinch of salt - but, if only!!
gobby
How ace would two foot of bloody snow be? I would happily settle for 2mm at this rate though
Just checked the latest radar for 22.15 and saw a big piece of snow heading towards the Humber area. Ten quid it misses me and heads off to my friends in Wakefield. They have already got 2inch the greedy g*ts
-
He wasn't too detailed but basically got his point across that areas from NE England, right down into EA and the SE will all be affected overnight. Mentioning E Mids and Lincs as being favoured locations for the largest falls, along with the SE.
Thanks PL hope he is right
-
Latest BBC forecasts supports showers intensifying and becoming more widespread after midnight. Peter Gibbs mentioned East Midlands and Lincs in particular as being quite badly affected overnight.
Missed that, was that for the whole of Lincolnshie or just inland parts?
-
What a complete disappointment this is turning out to be. Just the lightest of dustings here and no snow at all for the last couple of hours. Its still too warm at 1.3C aswell.
Lots of showers coming through but every single one is missing us.
Still no change then! Same here too, I m very disappointed aswell
-
Hey guys, I was wondering if someone can tell me what the snow prospects are like for Norwich overnight? I can't read the radar and i am being ignored in the other forum because there is so much emphasis on the SE. We have a covering here, but the showers have stopped. Thanks.
A few on here have been saying that most of the heavier showers will happen after midnight when a trough over the north sea reaches land. there has been a link on the previous page that shows where tonights snow might fall. Hope this helps

An interesting update LO. I could really do with a bit of snow, struggling at the minute. Does this cloud have any chance of hitting us and producing snow, a cm will do Im not greedy!!!
i find myself at odds with TEITS last post and think that object A on the sat image will produce fairly soon as it fills the clear slot we are currently in what is interesting is Area C on the sat is expanding North it seems and may join up with area A giving one large area hitting Norfolk Lincs And Humber.
Thats my Take on it anyway.
LO
I will take that, are you able to speak to those weather gods and make it snow tons where we live LOL
-
Got a slight covering of snow in Derby, started settling properly at about 5pm.
Had showers on and of all day, although they seem to have eased off. Was partly cloudy a few minutes ago.
Hopefully see more persitant snow later in the night and tomorrow.
Sounds the same as here, keep those fingers crossed for later on in the night
-
Exactly but it's strange how it always seems to be our areas that miss out usually with the showers
You could say its sods law. Before I moved here from Wakefield my Inlaws in Cleethorpes got snow when we didn't. Guess what having moved here Wakefield gets more snow. It is very annoying
-
Hi all an update on the sat images as before i have put some notes of interest on them feel free to comment.

It's alot WORSE than was first forecast. Showers today were meant to be few and far between... it was only this morning we saw an upgrade.
The action really starts from midnight tonight onwards, and throughout tomorow.
Does this mean then that the showers will become heavier and more frequent after midnight then? Could you or anyone explain what a streamer is? Thanks GLS
-
As stated earlier, the flow has some what changed. The PRECIP (blob on the radar) just NEE of the Humber will not hit lincs, its heading directly west from east. Hull and east of east riding, NE lincs will be somewhat dry for the next few hours. With some more organised precipitation possibly hitting later. At the moment for people in hull and that area, dont be suprised to wake up to nothing!
That is just typical I really hope you are wrong, but deep down if Im honest I bet you will be right. Hoping for a covering by morning please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Very heavy snow shower here giving us a covering at last.
Im staying with this thread the SE/EA is too manic for me. I suppose Peterborough is part of E Midlands.
A wise choice if you don't mind me saying. Perhaps you will bring lots of snow with you LOL

Hope your right, our local forecast said rain, sleet or snow Thursday/Friday. I guess he was covering all the bases
