  1. so it's a little like watching your football team heading to half time 1-0 down. If we're still having the same let-downs by the end of February then even I'll concede it's almost time to give up, but that's six long weeks away.

I'm a Leeds United fan and this winter is like the 6-0 thrashing they took last Saturday Catch! Posted Image

  2. Leaving second son back to Pollock Halls to recommence his Engineering studies at Edinburgh Uni. this morning and what a contrast between there and Perth.

Edinburgh sunny and 7C, Perth dreich and a maximum of 1.2C and now falling! VERY foggy between Bridge of Earn and Glenfarg (visibility - 50 yards)

Very pleasant walk to Carrubbers church on The Royal Mile from Buccleuch Place at 11.30 and returning at 13.30.

A couple weeks ago the temperature hovered at 4 below zero as the sun rose over the Illinois River. Amazing things can happen in such frigid conditions. Because of the nearly 40 degree temperature difference between the air and the water, steam formed and swirled around the river. The steam turned into ice crystals and drifted up into the air. The ice crystals then acted as prisms, refracting the light rays from the sun on the right. That is how this bright and colorful sundog was formed. This view is from Eagle Cliff at Starved Rock State Park.

  6. Happy Saint Stephen's Day to all on The Kilted Thread.

Minimum here was 2.2C at 03:02. Currently 4.0C(+1.0C/hr).

18.8mm of rain yesterday and especialy wet between 15:00 and 16:00 bringing total rainfall for December to 164.9mm. The R. Almond is high and has brought a considerable amount of silt downriver. The salmon run should be continuing due to the very dry conditions up to the last week of October.
