Well if the gfs and gem are to be believed by next weekend a warm up, 24-48 hours or more nobody knows. Shame because 3 days back it looked like Atlanta low, battleground snow event for some but now just break down with nothing.

The thing about attempted breakdowns is that they ain't what they used to be: they twelve-hour-long dumpings of old seem to have long-gone... Five minutes' sleet and graupel seem to be all we can expect, these days?
But, anywho, I still keep looking for the Holy Grail!
Maybe this year Ed, and before I’m to old to get outside and do some sledging

that is always the case. It's been showers popping up left right and cantre all the last week, but as soon as the cold air gets here it's bone dry lmfao!!
Oh well, so long as we get some lovely hoar frosts, i'll be happy, and you never know, something may turn up, but if it's anything like 2010, it'll be a dud , snow wise
Yeah totally agree but I should know better after nearly 14 years on here

Is that a polar low I spot trying to come down at 216?
And it’s still hard work to keep cold for any prolonged period

I long for a time when models are good enough to resolve low pressure systems like this so we don’t have to go through this drama..
I can see where you’re coming from, but that would take the fun out of it

I do hope this cold spell materialises and is prolonged because, knowing our luck, this will be our only chance this winter seaweed tea leaves and chocolate teapot aside.

especially against the background of climate change warming
Another great post Edd,“this last bit of your post I quote because with climate change warming we get increased weather extremes, and maybe this cold could be extreme . I also think someone else alluded to this earlier.
