  1. When I visited Germany/Poland/Ukraine it was warm (but not hot about say 25c) by day but it stayed up all evening and night but didn't feel humid at all. That's something we just can't get in the UK because as you say it needs to be 27c+ to give pleasant evenings - or high humidity. I can understand people not wanting it too humid to sleep or too hot if they're out in it a lot during the day I really can. It's just from my own (and I'm sure many others) perspective it can be pretty annoying on a blazing warm sunny day that feels lovely to be out in - but you're stuck in the office... Then you finally get out at 5pm or so hit the pub (or garden at home), finally sit down with your pint then start to freeze to death in your short sleeved t-shirt... Perhaps if we could all get a day off on nice, warm sunny days it'd be fine!
  2. Need a bit of humidity otherwise (unlike in mainland Europe) temperatures plummet early evening. No warm evenings means only two days per week to actually enjoy warmth!
  3. I like variety in autumn, winter & spring especially. A good few days of snowy Arctic northerlies are great fun in April. Then some nice warmth followed by the cold showery stuff again. In the prime peak months of May-August I probably fall out with too much variety thing in so much I want the weather to mostly be sunny, warm and dry (with just some conveniently timed thunderstorms from time to time) simply so I can be outside at much possible. We spend far too much of the year stuck indoors to spend those brief summer months staring out the window looking at the rain...
  4. Won't disagree there - definitely enjoy thunderstorms too but preferably at night and not when I'm trying to have a bbq  A sunny, steamy summer with weekly thunderstorms would be peachy. Anyway that's summer.. we best stick to spring here!
  5. I certainly wasn't ignoring May 2012 as my post mentioned that very spell - the last time we had such a spell. Its true almost all our decent weather has come that bit too early. Pleasant as warmth/sun in March is it isn't so useful as the days are still short and plants haven't yet got going. Late May is a perfect time for such a spell- the days are long, the air is clear and the sun high in the sky. But if then what follows was the vileness of summer 2012 then such a nice spell will rapidly fall into distant memory. I just hope, as always, that May-July contain our best weather of the year with ample dry & sunny weather throughout - especially late June for my wedding!
  6. Actually sunny AND warm has not been so common in recent years. Now when I say 'sunny and warm' I mean a day where the sun is shining for the majority of the day - and not just early morning and evening with cloud during the day. Sure we had fairly warm days last August but like a lot of our warm days in recent years they came from fairly humid cloudy affairs with sunshine at a premium. A good sunny & warm period to me is at least 5 days+ where the only cloud we get is a few small ones puffing up in the heat of the day and for that the last one was May 2012. And yes I'm well aware that most people vs weather fans preferences are indeed very different (small example: at the sandwich van earlier I mentioned it might snow to which everyones reply was 'oh no I'm tired of that' and 'when will it warm up' - quite a contrast to here!) but it is indeed possible to be a weather fan and enjoy warm, sunny weather... I know since I've been doing exactly that for the decade I've been on this forum!
  7. Well not really as its pretty rare in the UK to have such conditions. Understand it isn't 'action laden' but unusual none the less. I mean the last time we had a decent length spell like that was last May some 8 or so months ago. And that was only a little less than 2 weeks in length. I think if you asked most people if they want 'exciting' vs sunny & warm I think you'd find the sunny warmth won by a large margin!
  8. Ah yes spring - the chance to finally get some time to walk in the countryside again without the need for an overnight stay. In winter by the time you reach a decent walking spot (1-2 hrs from here) you've only got a few hours until nightfall - well unless you want to get up & set off during the night for the sixth day in a row (not likely after a long week at work). No such thing as 'too warm' for me when walking but yes in May - assuming you have access to the main part of the day - if its sunny it doesn't need to be especially warm to feel good. Evenings sat outside the pub are less tolerable though however!
  9. If we could just get all the wet & dull weather out the way now till late March then it turn generally warm, dry & most of all sunny from April - September I'd be a very happy man!
  10. Snowfall - been good for here especially last night with a good fall of big chunky flakes. I missed last Fridays event but have been dealing with the ice ever since however! Temperatures - never especially cold but never not cold either - pretty much -1 to 1c at all times with just the odd dip under brief clear skies. Cloud/sun levels- excessive cloud cover at almost all times. So this spell although snowier than Dec 2010 looses out in 'goodness' rating as it was constantly dull and lacking in low minima.
  11. I too like the day to night variation that spring gives - total contrast to a lot of our hardly changing day to night temperature weather (like recently). However do agree it can be a little frustrating to only experience the warmth on your ten min lunch break and it be cold when you get home!
  12. No I like snow - its just all the other naffness that winter mostly is I'm not so fond of. Snow is the odd few days out of a 90 day season!
  13. Still piling it down here- fantastic snow event for here a real good finale. Best snowfall I've actually been out & about in since I can remember!
  14. Just had a good hour walk in it - massive flakes and settling well! Lots of fun walking in brand new fresh snow with no footprints around... snowball fight had to be had! Best falling snow I've experienced in ages - good timing with a drunk Fri night!
  15. MAssive flakes now here in Nottingham. After several hours of shizzle its now covering and fast!
  16. Not yet that I can see - I'm right in city centre.
  17. Wow that massive heap of red on the radar is heading this way - will it make it or break up I wonder!
  18. I experienced low humidity with decent warmth in Germany, Poland and Ukraine before. The great thing was there is that it stayed warm overnight without being too warm to sleep. In the UK that just never ever happens- either its very humid with warm nights, or not humid and it goes cold overnight. I'd happily loose the humidity if we could keep the evenings warm enough to enjoy in a t-shirt at least till 9-10pm anyway.
  19. Whereas I love humid weather mostly since it means I get to enjoy it in the evening. No use being 23c all day when I'm at work only for it to rapidly fall below 15-16c by the time I get to sit outside of an evening. Love the smells & feel of warm, humid weather - the air feels soft and kind and isn't like to catch you out by going cold suddenly. Sure you get a bit sweaty if you run around - but who cares, we deal with shivering most of the time (which is much less pleasant) its nice to have a change!
  20. Very very dull here - especially during this cold spell. The mild spell early in the month recorded was much sunnier (although not wall to wall but def better than this cold spell). Typical easterly stuff around here - fog & low cloud and uniform temperatures 24 hours a day. If it wasn't for the odd bit of snow this would have been an awfully grim period.
  21. Yeah I don't like wearing gloves or hats either - but on a bike the wind chill factor makes it impossible without. Your fingers/ears ache like hell with sub zero air rushing past them!
  22. But I were to have not heated my house at all during the last two weeks it would be roughly 0c in here - the same as outside. The pipes would freeze & burst quite quickly, the windows would ice up and the bottle of water next to my bed would freeze solid. Much as I bang on about warmth I'm actually quite cold tolerant - always last with coat on or first with it off. Tolerant at both ends of the spectrum but with a preference for an easy life - so outside temp at 22-25c!
  23. If it were normal it'd be fine - most of the populated world is warmer than the UK and they cope just fine (well most of the time anyway - take recently in Australia as an exception! But that's extreme.).
  24. Dry skin/cracked lips/cold sores tend to be worst in cold conditions as you're frequently going from dry heated rooms to cold generally dry air. The longer/dangerous journeys to work come from cycling. Much as I love cycling it is a lot harder in winter. It takes ages to put all your gear on - coat, hat, helmet (squeezed over the top), scarf, reflective jacket, lights & finally gloves. This happens four times in two orders per day - yes its only a few minutes but its a few minutes that I don't need to bother with outside of winter/cold weather. All my winter gripes I can cope with fine - really its not that bad - I'm just saying they annoyances that simply don't exist in summer. Oh some more to the winter annoyances to add... cold feet, can't see my keys to open garage, gate & door, gate & door becoming next to impossible to open in cold conditions (the wood swells), having to keep fiddling with the awkward heating system to not waste fuel but not let the house get cold, mould growth in the house due to lack of airflow, forced to use tumble dryer which ruins clothes/costs money, complaints from the missus of all of the above plus many more..... OK I'll shut up Never use heating? How is this possible - even primitive man built a fire to keep warm!
  25. Oh don't mention July 2006 it brings a tear to the eye of how fantastic it was. That was the last really good July we had - surely we're long long overdue another one. The strong desire for warmth & sun asap in spring is very understandable when you've been stuck in near constant darkness for months on end. Late January is traditionally the most depressing time of year for many people with xmas over and the warmth & light of spring still a long way away. I know its beginning to grate me having to 'deal' with winter - dry skin, inability to get up in the mornings, stuffy centrally heated rooms and the headaches they produce, dangerous/uncomfortable journeys to work, longer journeys to work (or anywhere with all the layers & gear you need), garden just being a dark hole you cross to leave the house/store the bin in, the only outdoor smells being traffic or rotting matter... I could go on but will leave it there... Just made a facebook post about it getting lighter now and ten people liked it straight away - complete opposite effect to the one I posted about it closing in during November! Anyway spring - happy for a cold start (although that very first 18c sunny day you can get in March I tend to start dreaming about this time of year...) but lets hope it is that way round - cold to warm instead of a warm sandwich with a cold filling. Was a terrible year for plants & animals last year and really didn't help our food prices either.
