No real ease up in the intensity yet though radar suggests it should do soon.
-
Significant snow here. All schools closed at lunchtime. Main roads passable with extreme care. 15mins journey home took me 1 hour.
-
Snow been falling here all morning but small flakes and not making much impact to be honest. Last night's snow was better than what we have had so far. The good stuff is tantalisingly close but just doesn't seem to be quite getting here.
-
Light snow has stopped. Very little if anything at the moment but it won't be long, there will be no one that shouldn't at least see a few cm's.

Replying to Rosemary Hobbs Ward. Should have included her message.

Yes my daughter sent reluctantly off to nursery. Don;t worry though he'll have all weekend to sledge about. :-)
-
Have had consistant snow since about 4.30pm. Have a decent covering, roads now have a thin layer of snow on them. This really is an added bonus!
-
Been snowing light-moderately here for a good hour now. Only ice dusting but a few heavier spells. Interesting.
-
I am very excited about all of this but in terms of kids, driving eldest to nursery, babysitter getting to us so I can go to work etc, its a bloody nightmare morning! (potentially that is!)
-
Been snowing heavily in Coalville for more than an hour now. Huge flakes, settling nicely.
-
This is going to be touch and go. I'm at work in Coalville, Leicestershire. About 1cm on the ground. BBC News talking of significant disruption with mention of the East Midlands. Lots of window gazing (in between spells of work!) for me today.

What sort of time frame for the second band for the East Mids?

How many times have people said this is a nowcast situation? Well it is, its really not worth making too many predictions. Perhaps some are not going to do as well as first hoped but theres still plenty to come and its only 9.10pm. If its not meant to be the next event might not be too far around the corner. :-)

I was in Leicester yesterday Andy, yes it almost looks like you had more than us in Bagworth. (We have moved from Ibstock) Was very surprised to see the forecast this morning. The weekend was fantastic but this has the potential to surpass this. Am I right in thinking the timing is Thurs going into Fri? A chaotic start to work on Friday, could see most schools closed if the predicted amounts happen. They were saying 20cms this morning!!!
-
Quite excited about this possible event. Andy in Leicester will have to walk up the street and dig my in-laws out. :-) Bring it on.
-
Been snowing heavily here for more than half an hour now but as with Andy down the road in Leicester it is not sticking. Seems to be getting heavier but looking like a slushy covering at best here.
-
So we're looking at temps of up to 5c tomorrow, positively mild by comparison. Forecasts are already talking of the return of colder weather next week so perhaps more snow on the way??
-
I live in the East Midlands and we've had plenty of snow this morning
-
Morning all. Started snowing lightly around 7.45am then just carried on getting heavier, went back to being light about half an hour ago but there has to be a fresh 2-3cm's on the ground. Listened to the local weather report this morning which suggested milder weather for the weekend with some rain but that it will turn colder with more snow next week. I'm just thinking back to Sunday when we were all waving goodbye to the cold weather. This week has been better for me in terms of snow depths than last week, loving it!
-
I am going to bed. Not sure what if any snow is going to hit my area, whatever does its a good way off yet. Here's hoping for one last good downfall before that mild weather and rain comes in this weekend!!
-
I woud but the thought of Bristol City vs Cardiff just doesen't excite me
If it was Leicester vs someone, now thats a different story my friend
Leicester play the winners of this one!
-
Yes probably mate. It's all going to come down to PPN amounts rather than if it will be sleet or snow. It will fall as snow without a shadow of a doubt. By the way... You ever been Braunstone chippy before? I have just got my dinner for tonight from there Fernhurst is an ice rink, about fell over!
Been there once ot twice but not that often, my Mother in-law cooks better food! ;-) Fernhurst is always hazardous when the white stuff hits, Braunstone Town doesn't know what a gritter truck looks like!! I'm back your way Thursday night, probably be slush by then!!
-
I reckon this band will reach Leicester around 3am. Probably reach Birmingham about 1am.
Can't see it being much though, dusting for Leicester, maybe 3-5cm for Birmingham.
3-5cm for Ibstock too Andy? We still have a good few cm's out in the fields surrounding the village after yesterday's freak snow event so another top up would be good. I'm getting quietly optimistic!
-
Fernhurst still has a surprising amount of snow on it though. The road is slush but the pavements and peoples gardens still have about an inch left. Bet in Coalville theres loads more though because it's a good 90m higher up. Makes a lot of difference 90m does in situations like this and with snow melt. Coalville would be about 1c colder than here in Braunstone. The temp here is 1c so up in Coalville it would be around 0c and very little snow melt.
All true mate, hovering at around 0, no melt apparent and a very good covering indeed, I am happy, just need to finish work so I can enjoy it!!
