Just to let Southeastern commuters know that they are recommending people try to complete their homeward journeys by 6PM tomorrow night as heavy snow is forecast from around that time.....

That's just SE trains covering their backsides though more than a forecast.

In the past they've adopted a heavily reduced timetable when the chance of snow was about 20% by every model. Didn't arive and they still ran the skeleton service.

Clearly the chances are higher now but I wouldn't trust an SE guidance for love nor money. Could come at 3pm or 9pm they put up rubbish anyway

  2. I think the uniform pockets are too small for their pay packets....With over 2 million unemployed, some people would give their right arm for a career with training, to provide for their families.Disgrace sack the lot of em.Its getting very windy here, hope the tiles hold out!

Yep, drag everyone down to the levels of the lowest paid rather than lift up those at the bottom. A nice race to the bottom. They get 26k - how dare they! Put them on 12k. Then let benefits top it up to pay for ridiculous housing costs in the UK so the taxpayer loses out. It's a job where they get abused day in day out living in the most expensive city in Europe.

And then cut everyone on more than 12k across the country down to minimum wage. Is that your solution to unemployment?

  3. It's ironic the Tube Drivers go on strike during the storms. Don't think they will be missed that much to be honest Posted Image  Anyway, what are they going on strike this time for? Shoe laces too short or/& not the right type of cows on the line Posted Image

It's not tube drivers but station staff. Do keep up. Posted Image

1000 station staff will be cut. All ticket offices closed. So much more fare avoidance without staff so savings will be wiped out. All those things you could only do at offices like add gold cards and disabled railcards to an oyster card or sort out refunds and use vouchers will go.

  4. Do you live near any rivers or open land?! Have a look at your local river then come back and tell me that things haven't been too bad.

    Cuckmere in the summer!

The Thames - which is fine. I know there's flooding in places and sad for people affected but it is not the massive amounts that were predicted/feared. Which is good and hopefully the coming bands of rain will peter out and give around 10mm like previous ones have.

  5. Just watched the  BBC Weather the next huge storm for Sunday will not be as bad as they thought Gibbs said they are watching it!!!

To be honest for some in the south east every system in the past week hasn't been that strong and been less than feared. Some heavy showers yes, but generally not more than 10mm of rain a day and non damaging gusts. If there have been heavier bands they last 2 or 3 hours maximum.

    'Staying put' 0000:

In Essex, the 2,500 householders in Jaywick were being asked to sign a declaration by police if they decided not to leave their homes.

BBC Look East's Gareth George says: "If the householders say they staying, they are asked to sign a declaration saying they have had the risks explained to them."

But he added most residents he spoke to were "staying put".

Isn't Jaywick the most deprived part of the country? Maybe some are fearful of burglary if they go and a lack of police patrols. A lot of houses look like little more than shacks that could be easy to break into. Horrible situation.

  7. The ground outside is so soft, there are still many leafs on the trees. I think this storm still has to potential to do some damage, although might not be the 'Apocalyptic' storm that the media was hyping up. We will find out in the next few hours how strong and how disruptive the storm is for the south and south east

Just had a nose in the south west thread and a few people saying they havn't had many gusts of note and can't see much about many trees falling. That could mean not much will hit the SE or the damage will be limited?
