  1. snow began just before 1pm, at first light and very intermittent, but within half an hour much heavier falls began with at first 50p size flakes.

as the afternoon wore on snow fell almost continuously, sometimes heavy with large flakes, other times less large, but by onset of night some 2cm level snow had fallen on paths, and road, and more on grassy areas.

at times visibility was down to fog limits.

the snow finally abated by 8pm and left behind a world of white, although the onset of a slow thaw became apparent two hours later.

  2. Where on earth did this come from! I must say this event completely passed me by when looking at the models. It looks like quite a large area of precipitation aswell, so there could be some good totals from this.

Currently 0.9C with moderate/heavy snow and a good dusting on grass and cars. Its a little bit wet to lay on the roads yet, but as it gets heavier this should improve.

On night shift again so should be able to watch this :D

    hello reef

whilst the models are very useful they cannot foretell everything, especially as there are more than one to study.

it is not a bad idea to have an understanding of basic meteorology anyway, and get to know your own area and its good and bad points weather-wise.

thats how i started, and it all makes for good practice :)

looks real bad in scarborough!!! high ground will be so good there!! good job i didnt go surfing today!

true, but you could have gone ski-ing though :D

tomb raider legend posted the address for this site earlier

    http://www.raintoday.co.uk/

it shows the rainfall radar in a loop, and is very useful to help guage directional movement

EDIT: moderate snow still falling here, but no longer in large flakes and not settling :aggressive:

  4. snowing rather heavier here now but still not settling

EDIT: crikey, i've just turned my head away from the computer to look outside and the snow is now falling very heavily.

what is more - its settling too :good:

Nice one mate :good: It's been snowing here for quite a while, and we have a covering of around 2cm's atm. Looking at the radar

there's still a bit more to come as well. :good:

    hello grab my graupel

thats good news - just blow it down here please :)

  5. Well here in hull its v heavy and i mean the heaviest u can probably see, its sticking, its like 101 dalmations, 0.5cm its wet and then after that its laying. kinda like that, temp now 1.0c exactly, if it hits around the 0 mark then it will 100% settle and give accumulations on most/all surfaces.

its that narrow band thats crossing over your area at the moment, and has indications of the equivalent of 30mms rain/hour falling from it :good:

Snowing quite heavy and starting to settle now :good:

    thats good news :good:
