  1. For what it's worth - 24.4mm of rain today in Winchester, which brings the total from this little outburst to around 30mm. Amazing how much more fell in areas which are not too far away - Fareham and along A27 towards Emsworth for example.
  2. Getting on for 9mm of rain since it started yesterday morning. Wouldn't be surprised to see 20+ by tomorrow morning. This adds to the 924mm so far this year. which must be one of the highest for some time despite Jan - March. (Thanks www.winchesterweather.org.uk)
  3. Brief sleet shower in Winchester started at 17.55 and just finished - big surprise. Temp +2.4/DP 0.0. And Ian's posts always give me a fascinating insight into MetO thinking. Much appreciated.
  4. -3.3 in Winchester. Temps fell below zero around 6pm according to www.winchesterweather.org.uk. DP is -4.6 with humidity at 91%. Hmmm - winters have the potential to be rather interesting in Gurney Slade I should imagine.
  5. Thunder and torrential rain for the last twenty minutes or so in Winchester.
  6. Apologies - this should probably have referred to UK sites only. Anyway - a taste of what might be happening in the high Pennines in late October or early November. Probably.
  7. Snow in the Dolomites - September 1st 2012 - video from www.mondoneve.it
  8. Light snow in Winchester since about 6. Temperature +1.4; Dewpoint -0.6
  9. Thunder heard in Winchester 1609 Quite a downpour now, with associated flash bang wallop - seen forked lightning three, make that four times.
  10. A few minutes of (admittedly pretty) snow, here in Winchester - looking towards the WNW, there seem to be quite a few interesting looking clouds, so maybe we'll get a bit more.
  11. A bit of drizzle in Winchester earlier - now turned into a few snowflakes in the wind. Can't imagine that many daffodils are going to be up for flowering for St David's Day at this rate.
  12. Yesterday's chirpy dumbed-down forecast on South Today suggested that 'a few places may get into double figures on Wednesday'. Winchester is currently +4. Even St Catherine's Point is only +5. So there.
  13. Mainly rain here - some big flakes of snow too. Some cars with snow on roofs coming down Alresford Rd - probably from 200m+ areas like Four Marks.
  14. NAE reckons on 5cm for Central Hampshire. Nice of you to leave us a bit.
  15. Just getting an idea of the snow from the Dartcam http://www.dartcom.co.uk/dartcam/index.php Looking forward to some later at this end of the A303.
  16. Why it will snow in my area tomorrow evening: 1. Last week, on Tuesday, I was supposed to go to a drinks party about 8pm. The snow started falling about 4pm, and by 7, the roads were pretty nasty. So I didn't go. 2. Tomorrow, I am supposed to drive from Winchester to Guildford, leaving about 6.30pm and returning about 11. Therefore... Plus, looking at the most recent BBC forecast, it looks pretty much as if light snow will start falling in Hampshire about early evening, continuing overnight before fizzling out
  17. Snowed heavily in Winch from about 7.45 to 9, now much lighter. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Channel, fancy surfing in Dinard? Lovely live webcam of snow covered beach. http://www.viewsurf.com/vue-174-Dinard_-_Plage.html
  18. I can see the low off South West Wales, but there appears to be another one developing around Oxford according to: www.raintoday.co.uk
  19. Snow flakes have been falling at the rate of about 2 per minute in Winchester for past half hour.
  20. The latest NAE charts look pretty confident for snow from late morning onwards, possibly for another 24 hours in the C. Southern area. Put it this way: if I need to drive anywhere, it will snow. Heavily. Based on this, Tuesday evening about 6.30, and the same time next week is nailed on.
  21. Country Tracks forecast for the week in the C. South in a nutshell: Very cold all week Sun/Mon: Sunny Tues: Precipitation moving southwards, likely to be rain/sleet the further south and west you go. i.e here. Wed/Thurs: Snow showers, more frequent and heavier towards east of our region Fri: Possibility of widespread heavy snow covering all of C. Southern England, but could be further south, could be further east - keep watching.
  22. There have been a few snow grains in the wind in Winchester in the last half hour - that's all. Dew Point still just above zero - +0.2 last time I looked, with temperature of 3.2.
  23. I've always been interested in the weather and joined in early 2009 - it's thanks to John that I have learned a lot more about weather patterns, how to interpret models and a whole load of acronyms. Thanks John for encouraging people to learn, and for providing help when people get out of their depth. Gary
  24. Temperature in Winchester +2.8; Dew Point 1.5 Steady rain with the odd wet snowflake Pretty optimistic that we should see some snow late New Years Eve or on New Years Day.
