  1. I'd like to thank the weather gods for the (largely unforecast) snow, rain, sleet, hail, frost and freezing fog in the last 24 hours. And thunder/lightning.
  2. Moderate snow in Winchester - started as rain and sleet about an hour ago - now settling.
  3. The current radar seems to show a line of precipitation with NW edge South West London to New Forest. Snow the further north you go - beyond Petersfileld, say. Sleet to the south, and rain turning to freezing rain when it hits the IOW.
  4. Same in Winchester, Steve. In addition to people, I have also seen a dog and a pigeon slip over.
  5. Stormforce Beka: "Oooh your in one of those posh houses?" Yes: a very posh two-up two-down terrace! -3.9 this morning. Snow not going anywhere, and judging by the forecast, I'll be struggling up the hill during a further snowfall around midnight tonight.
  6. Hi Stormforce Beka - I'm up the Alresford Road - between Town Centre and Golden Lion. Only 150 feet or so above central Winchester, but that often makes all the difference when fog or snowfall are concerned.
  7. Plenty of snow coming down for the last ten minutes in Winchester - but ominous signs of blue skies which will compel me to go to Tesco.
  8. Light snow in Winchester has been falling for about ten minutes - and settling.
  9. Very light small snow grains falling in Winchester. Temp +2; DP +0.1
  10. 3rd airfrost of the season here in Winchester. Down to -1.3, last night - now up to 4.2 with visibility up to 2 miles, but looking as if it's downhill shortly. Grey/overcast. Winds around 4mph 29 deg NNE.
  11. Good to see most models beginning to agree on cold with a likelihood of some snow in the next week. Temp here in Winchester has risen from a min of -1.3 to a mighty +1.3C with 200m visibility in my location. As far as model output is concerned, I'm just going to read what John H writes: no dramas, cool analysis, and a twinkle in the eye. This balances my own sulking/elation, baseless forecasting and warning complete strangers that we're going to be snowed in until March.
  12. Thurderstorm started here in Winchester about 1505.
  13. Rain falling steadily - 3.9mm so far. Started at 12, stopped for an hour or so between 2 and 3. Temp has dropped gradually from 17.1 at 2 am to 12.2 at present.
  14. I do remember reading an A Level textbook (some time ago) which described the snow patch on Ben Nevis as 'an incipient glacier'. The knife edge conditions mean that any long term change in the various conditions (summer temperature and rainfall, winter snowfall etc) required for its existence, even small ones, could result in its size increasing and permanent status.
  15. Temperature has just gone up from 4.4 to 9.1 C in the last hour here in Winchester. DP 8.6. Wind round to SW and barometer still falling at 977.8.
