Sunny Leith

Interesting.... :-) North-western extent sees it stalling just above Fort William. Does all that line of rain/snow from Fort William to Berwick start to sink southwards , increasingly turning to snow, and give (maybe) SE borders in particular a fairly lengthy period to get snowed on ? Could be a snow boundary somewhere in central Edinburgh, sometimes the snow line starts at Viewforth/Bruntsfield Links !

Still think you'll have a good chance of seeing a transition. I see from the rainfall radar everything headed a bit more north and east than was expected. So does that all stall...then spin south and east after a while...or does it just clear through ? Hopefully the former.

Whole thing seems to have gone a wee bit further north than expected LS. Not expecting anything at all street-level in central-Edinburgh but higher parts of town might catch a bit on the back-edge once it all starts sliding south and east ? PS Sorry to hear about your mum Catch, all the best to you and to Blitzen also.

Too much turbulence at the Leith lamp-post to characterise it, but enough visible in the mix to say there's definitely some wet flakes. Higher parts of the city might be seeing something more worthwhile just now.

Good to see some positive reports out there tonight. Not convinced there'll be anything other than lamp-post intensity if these radar blobs even make it to Edinburgh, but certainly surprisingly cold ahead of it, -1C at the airport and dew-points good.

Is it a potential "stinger" of the kind we had at start of January last year Joe ? I live in a tenement top-floor flat but that one was the worst in lifetime memory, felt like I could genuinely feel the whole building shake, could hear glass shelves creak in the living room, trees down all over Hillside Gardens. Genuinely scary.

Just checking in for the start of the winter (well more or less) ...good to see so many well kent faces on here holding the fort ! Think it was probably the goose migration story that stirred my thoughts for the coming months...whens all the kilted thread's long rangers coming out ?

Aye, same here Catch. Feels like every night for the past 4 weeks or so I've had to walk home head down, hood up, into a cold wind from the east. Fed up with it now. I'll happily accept any double-digit temperature that comes our way in the next couple of days...

Took a wee hike just out of town up to Balerno earlier today..it's still winter up there, even got clipped by a decent 20 minute snow shower. Spring will come as it always does, but these pictures still tell the same story for a large area of inland-upland Scotland.

The Leith snizzle become a Leith mini-blizzard of light but intense grauple, quite localised I think over North Edinburgh. Only just stopped. Most of Hillside/London Road was whitened, sun now coming out again. Wasn't it about 2 days ago we were meant to be at the "light flurry" stage up and down the coast and central areas ? As usual the forecast has underestimated precipitation in this east-coast/easterly scenario.

Aye, even a bit of tiny snizzle falling here in Leith. Like many, almost can't remember a day there hasn't been either snow falling or lying. Would like it to end ASAP after March 31st though !

I guess not expecting anything to stick around in day-time from this light-snow-showery regime, even as cold as it is. I'm just treating whatever stuff comes out the sky as something to justify the cold as much as anything else !

Some relative relief out there from the bitter cold on the way to work. Wind has dropped, sun peeking out. Either way, expecting max temperatures here *might* be a degree or so higher at urban-street level than the last few days. We'll see ...

Yeah, very similar indeed LS - just made more notable by the fact this is more than 2 months down the line ! Aye, saw the overall curve as well...just as the point when the curve should be ticking-upwards, the graph is still trending down to its lowest point of the winter-spring season. Bloody hell ...

I know that those of you who run a recording station will have seen the same kind of temperature profile this past week, but this one from Edin Uni is as good as any... http://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/abs/Weathercam/station/latestweek.html ...basically the last 96 hours have flatlined in the range 0 to 2c at best. The cloud sheet has kept our spirits down a bit but this is still a remarkable cold spell in its own way. We're all used to daily highs and lows, but this kind of consistency in a narrow range is notable.
