  1. The snow had stopped and there were patches of blue sky so I popped out for lunch... I have to say that is never late-March out there. Never !
  2. Aye, theres been steady light snow in the middle of town this last hour or two. Seems like this cold period is never-ending. Like LS said yesterday (and JoeShmoe above), I'd be more than happy to see the March cold play out (chance of a record cold one) ... but come April I want to be done with this stuff, this winter has been too bloody long already !
  3. After a serious days walking over The Pentlands, I used to go drinking there (about 20+ years ago) in what used to be called (in fact was probably nicknamed) "Ma Browns". If we missed the last bus we'd just stagger down the last few miles into town, tired and pshed !
  4. Feels like its always been 1 or 2 farenheit away from being an exceptional winter, it "..could have been a contender" But still memorable in its own way for some decent snow events for many of us. But no fur me !
  5. Jeez, last time I saw an outbuilding like that was in 'The Hiils Have Eyes' !
  6. 12 miles downwind from sodden-wet snowless Leith to a different climate zone in the same city. Crazy... Anyway, nae mair TOORPing from me. For those that can get out and about with the kids on an enforced day off, enjoy... theres nothing better!
  7. Aye thats it Catch, the oro uplift type thingy... ! Or why ski-ing happens in the mountains and not on the beach LOL... Luck of the draw Stuart, other local factors must have worked in your favour. Enjoy !
  8. Yup, I think we know about 20 ways for Embra not to get snow and 2 ways for it to get it ! But to be fair we've got 101_North on the other side of town who's done well out of it, so I guess Embra is just a microcosm of the coastal effect on one side (north and east) and the inland height effect on the other (south and west)
  9. LS always explains it better but I guess its basic meteorology. Cold moist air forced upwards over a little bit of height and the snow does fall... Nae height here of course so nothing is being "released" despite the radar screaming all the right orange-shades much of the time.
  10. Aye, its similar to one of these marginal events a few weeks back (I'm losing track of them now). There was nothing worthwhile here for By-Tor junior, but up to the in-laws at Liberton and he made a great snowman. 10 minutes in the car but inland and 400ft up. Makes a heck of a difference.
  11. Only hazard you'll have to watch out for then is dog poo !
  12. Aye we're more or less in the same boat Hawsey. Frustrating thing is the lack of precipitation intensity here on the coast. There's been no problem with snow falling here since late-afternoon yesterday. But we were done with the sporadic heavy-shower type activity by mid evening last night and since then its just been inconsequential lamp-post type intensity. Its just ugly outside, cold and raw, nowt to show for it. Yup, definite TOORP from me !
  13. As anticipated, its a Leith mega-TOORP from me. Woke up to the same picture as last night. Snowflakes blowing about in the wind but with no intensity whatsoever. Streets wet, nae lying snaw at all. Radar and sky full of it but local snaw end-product here is precisely zero. Enjoy your snow folks but its an absolute TOORP non-event here.
  14. I know Catch. If you said you liked it then obviously we would had a cyber-pagger ! Aye, we need another category other than "like" ... someone might get hurt one day LOL...
  15. Local radar looks good but local reality not matching it. Blowy lamp-post snow, streets wet, raw and dismal. Waste of time in this part o'toun.
  16. Ach well, its not over till the fat lady etc .... Good shout there on your forecast map anyway. Edit: only lamp-post type snow here, streets wet, cars wet, hedges glistening with water. Residual slush patches but that's all. Not a pretty sight.
  17. Plenty decent looking cloud on the radar in the Forth estuary, but locally, really doing nothing more than some stuff blowing about in the wind in Leith. Leith TOORP on hold till the morning though !
  18. Ach well, its only 10 minutes drive if I want to go and look at it ! I'm still habouring hopes that The Braids will pick up enough to allow for some late spring sledging with the youngster this week...
  19. Think you may be right - locally looking worse here. Slush now really just on its last legs on the way to utter wetness. Cloud a bit higher - I can see Fife horizon no problem. Don't see it working out here as things stand. But inland/upland still looking great. Yeah, I'm getting that sinking feeling here too Joe. For others, enjoy !
  20. It could do this for the next 24 hours here and with nowt to show for it. Need something to change in our favour. Uppers, wind direction, temps, dew points ... anything!
  21. Aye, I don't grudge it to anyone, hope you get your night to remember. Not sure I could suffer another letdown so quickly though after Hearts got done over by St. Mirren yesterday... So forgive me if I have a wee TOORP in the morning !
  22. Ach Hawsey, nae luck. LS understands the rationale better than me, but it is madly frustrating to be on a sticky-oot bit of Fife, and then see it go past and around you and dump on everyone else. Sucks to be right on the coast sometimes and this may be another one of these times...
  23. Hopefully. Net degradation here this last couple of hours. Mostly gloopy slush here now so getting myself mentally ready to accept it may not pan out (well not here anyway). Just wrong side of marginal here thus far.
  24. Ach well long way to go SP33, but Leith isn't renowned for its snow-capturing ability. Good to see you're getting some decent activity up there. Make sure to get some piccys out in the morning !
  25. Embra split in half just now - SE part getting the benefit of shower activity, north and west not much happening (although a brief blast here about 10 mins ago)
