What's the eta of the snow please? Am due to be travelling back from London to north Somerset on the train later today at about 6. Should I try and get out earlier or will the snow arrive over night? Thanks
-
Ok. I think I'm feeling negative now. It's not looking good....
Yep. Think we'll just see some transient light snow, thawing before midnight. Need to be further east (say swindon east) to catch the real stuff. still, there's always next week

The thread wasn't closed because it contained speculation, it was closed because too many members were becoming abusive and insulting to others because they didn't agree with their views. We went down the usual routes of removing/editing posts and contacting people directly, but unfortunately it didn't stop the situation from continuing to go downhill so as a last resort we closed the thread.
As is often said - the moderators can only do so much, it's down to all the members to moderate themselves and if they do that, posts don't get removed and threads don't get locked..
I'm sure there'll be plenty of other winter based threads in the coming months..
Thanks for the explanation - much appreciated. Here's hoping for an exciting winter - half the fun is in the anticipation!

I am a very infrequent poster on here, but enjoy reading what others - expert and otherwise! - have to say on the weather.
Like many others, I am most interested in the winter weather and look forward to reading others forecasts - from very long range to nowcasts - about winter.
What I would like to know is why did moderators feel the need to close the winter discussion thread? Yes, I appreciate is it mostly speculation and guess work at this stage, but it is fun to read non the less. Surely those deeply offended by the lack of scientific basis or general off topicness of the thread could just not read it, and let those of us who want to speculate away to our hearts content get on with it in peace and quite if we promise not to disturb the in depth and more serious forecasting threads?
anyway, I've had my say - but it does seem like this forum is somewhat over moderated to me (but saying that I do appreciate the personal time that mods put into the site and that it is a difficult balance)

Just got in from work.
Nearly and inch here in Yatton, just by a shower.
Waiting for the rest of it
I'm about a mile up the road from Yatton and only a icing sugar coating here on the pavements
-
up near filton is looking good
just wet pavements for me though
-
A slight lull in the snow atm, have got a light dusting at the moment but hoping for a bit more to at least make it over 1cm.
Just up the road from you and our v light dusting has been washed away by rain
-
yes same here in south bristol bs3 .cant seeing any though
I'm in the same boat. The latest "raintoday" radar shows a thin stream of PPN to our south. No idea how acurate this is though

I hate to be a misserable bugger but although our whole region is under snow risk on that if you look closer it has a 200m snow line so it would be a very marginal event wouldnt it?
I have a horrible feeling you might be right. however, I live in hope.
This one any better for 6am Friday ? :o
I'll be happer if the charts are still looking like this same time tomorrow!
(and the grey toe has now been coloured in!)

steady fall in temperature finaly. down to 3.0 now -0.7c per hour dew point of 1c and falling slightly.
I would expect sleet soon but snow i have bit to go i think.
I'm liking the look of the snow risk charts now for Thursday evening.

Parallel run is simply amazing in F.I. talk about re-loads !!
Please forgive my ignorance here...but what is the parallel run?
(Have been reading this forum regularly since last winters snow 'event' and slowly starting to understand bits of the conversations!
Thanks

Rain/Sleet now turning to snow. Bigger flakes, and starting to stick.
In Yatton, south of Bristol
Yep, just starting to stick to the roads now in Wrington a mile or so south of you. Had a nasty feeling we were going to miss out again...here's hoping the heavy stuff keeps tracking up the M5
-
Absolutely......
far enough NW to give just west of Bristol airport a good dumping?
-
Still nada here in churchdown ( glos )
all quiet here in North Somerset (Wrington) since getting a light dusting around 10pm...here's hoping
-
I know you're all getting excited in Bristol, but looking at the Radar I can't see how you're going to get that much accumulation? I would've thought it'll end up a bit further north.. The precipitation looks too far east to hit bristol later on.. I could be wrong.. Just my take on looking at the radar.
now now, don't spoil our dreams :o
