Let’s hope that warning shifts a little further South for more of the region to join in.

Just now, Battleground Snow said:
Gem starting to show powerful streamers setting up on Sunday and Monday now.
This is a good sign on a global model that far out.
Please could I see chart?

As someone who isn’t that great at reading weather charts, and come on here to learn, I find it rather infuriating that there are obviously posters who come on here to wind people up (and obviously take enjoyment from that).

A nice covering in Mark, Somerset.
Whats it like up on top of Mendips? Might go out for our daily exercise later!
-
On the radar the front end coming into Somerset is showing as snow.
I cant access radar at work - how long before it hits the mendips?
-
Chaos between radstock and bath.
-
Quite heavy now on mendips near chilcompton
-
Light snow grains in bath for past hour or so
-
Any more for bath area?
-
17 cm in bath where I am
-
About 4 inches in bath. Cars can't get up my road
-
Just had a phone call from a friend in 4 by 4 saying roads over mendips including A37 are getting bad with people getting stuck in places.
Yep - work have shut, saying its bad there now and snow is still falling heavily.
-
Another couple of hours probably not although I don't know what main roads are like.
Thanks. How much have you got up there now? Still coming down?
-
Just stunning outside already, just waiting for the heavy ppn to arrive...
inch or so so far and temperature is now a lovely safe -0.9c
Mullender - I work in chilcompton. Any point in attempting travelling?
-
They have zero impact if conditions are good for settling snow, and they are as we head into tomorrow!
Good news.
It's looking good for large parts of the region. I work basically on the mendips, so I don't think I shall be going in tomorrow!!!
-
Light snow in bath.....all surfaces wet......snow not sticking.
How do wet surfaces impact impact on snow sticking?
-
Bath is right on the border of the dark blue area on the met office risk map. Fingers crossed for a movement back west!!!
Plenty more twists and turns ahead methinks!!!!

Quick round up, all of the models IMO show snow for most of the sw on Friday, there is very little doubt that the likes of east Somerset and eastwards in our region will see 12 hrs of snow. The uncertainty is whether Devon etc gets snow and whether the front will stall oer the sw or more quickly move eastwards. There is still model disagreement over this.
Re a breakdown there is no agreement on a breakdown to mild weather. We are only looking at a breakdown to less cold and all models are really showing the cold to last beyond the weekend in some form or another.
Personally I think Devon will see snow at some point, that the front will stall of parts of the sw. I think that precip totals will be 20cm or more for 50 percent of the sw people.
I think the meto will upgrade to an amber warning for some of the sw later this morning and to a red tomorrow if things stay as are.
Nae develops a small feature ahead of the band which complicates things but isn't tht far off the gfs IMHO and is certainly an improvement.
Morning Iceberg,
Thanks for an excellent post.
Is Bath in a favoured spot? Just asking, as it may scupper my plans - which I don't mind as I would prefer to be out in the snow!
Thanks

GM Modifications continue with rain & showers by end Fri through weekend. Heavy snow Midlands etc. Fri could see many hours of snow for anywhere away from far SW and environs. Horrendous forecast to get right at this juncture.
Hi Ian,
What would you class the far SW as?
Thanks

Morning all!
I think it's just a case of nowcasting. Like legritter mentioned, the ingredients are about - its just a case of them all coming together!!!
Anyone else sick of certain people on the model discussion thread? They are there just with the sole purpose of causing havoc. It does my head in......
