  1. very windy here, windiest it has been over the last week, difficulty walking or standing up 7.8c with cloud cover and dry

i have been watching out of my window and the chinmey on the house opposite has just blown off not a huge one and smashed on there conservatory it is very serious at the moment...

  2. gfs 18z run still going for a quite a severe storm tomorrow with a very tight pressure gradient on its southern flank, coming across northern ireland into south west scotland and over to northern england with gusts around 70-75mph possible could be some damage..

rob mcelwee never mentioned any wind tomorrow really strange maybe the gfs has over cooked it as usual ??

plus met office no mention of warnings for wind

  3. wednesday the next day to watch, if the gfs keeps this idea we will be looking at quite a dangerous storm system only 48 hours to go downgrade likely? well it cant upgrade or there will be another gfs hurricane which never comes off...

im off work for a week after tuesday interesting first day off wednesday!!

todays storm had a slight downgrade by the gfs on its 18z run from the 12z run, never the less it is very windy here with force 8 mean speeds on the coast and gusts 55-65mph noisy night for sleeping :cc_confused:

  4. James-why don't you read their warnings page-it mentions gusts to 70mph they have a flash for N Ireland rainfall.

I complain if they get it wrong and that as an ex forecaster with them but a bit of credit when its valid would not go amiss.

as to our own Alert-its about right-winds as I said last night could be tweaked 5-10mph for the more exposed parts.

Currently I'm watching how the pressure changes affect the low-IF it seems necessary I'll amend our alert?

sorry john, just read there updated warnings for cumbria 60mph gusts and in excess of 70mph on exposeds coasts :)

  5. vicious looking storm now moving towards us, i thought bellmullet would be alot windier at present but i think the storm is just going to be moving over ireland over the next few hours, gusts touching 60mph over western ireland now.

gfs 00z has kept the intensity of the storm of not slightly more intense. expect very heavy hail and thunder showers with this system and squally gusts over 70mph with damage, we dont need anymore rain here in cumbria and its not looking good and with the trees sitting in saturated ground with severe gales, not a good combination....

  6. just had a thunderstorm go through, two flashes of lightning and very heavy rain, its 8c and a strong southerly wind.

wow ! had a gust of 42.2mph about 20.20 tonight, coincided with a blip in the pressure and a 3 c drop in temp and some rain !

    now back to 15-20mph wind

i bet you will be recording some strong gusts tomorrow gfs going for 85km/h mean speeds near isle of man

  7. gfs 18z run showing a potent low moving west across us during sunday and no doubt damaging winds for some, northern ireland, southern scotland, north west england and wales, wouldnt be surprised to see exposed locations reporting gusts in excess of 70mph

and not really a warning to state the wind strength as yet.

vicious looking storm winding up now, sting jet happening?

  8. the met office did mention it in the advisory for sunday it will become very windy with 60mph gusts, there forecast for my town has mean speeds of 42mph and gusts 60-65mph and interesting sunday coming up, and more heavy showers for flood hit areas up here

the environment agency have said in the last half hour river levels are rising again.
