I know you somehow missed quite a bit your way. Most frustrating one I remember for that was February (?) 2012 I think...a Saturday. Snowed pretty heavily from early hours through to late at night, and after an initial dusting, just nothing. Meanwhile just over the bridge in England all the way down to London, they were buried. That was a kicker for me...

Quite happy with what we got - but obviously doesn't quite make up for particularly for two winters on the spin without anything significant. Roll on the next chance.

I remember that well. February 4th 2012. Started off as snow in -1ºC and then turned to rain, while most of England had a fantastic snow event.

  2. Well, to be fair, it's been a great day of snowy weather for me in Ogmore Vale. The snow overnight was much better than expected, it's just a shame this afternoon's intensity didn't last a little longer. Looks like that's it now until the next system comes in overnight, but I'm not expecting much (if anything) from that here in South Wales. Attention now turns to mid and North Wales - enjoy!

To be honest I cannot see anything in the way of a flake here within the next hour or so, bloody welsh hill are sucking the lifeboutbof any precipitation for us in South Wales. Maybe early hours of the morning we could get lucky. Also i cant see them showers way up in Scotland make there way south into wales as Ali alluded. Time for zzzzz all the best and toes crossed.

Yeah, looks like being bone dry here too. Love a good frost though.

I think the red was justified - there has been quite a bit of damage along the South Coast, a petrol station in Barry lost its roof, in Bridgend there are trees down and quite a few roof slates went flying, including my parents house, it was very bad for a couple hours.

We have some sleety hail now, sky has gone orangey.

Agreed, I think the red warning was fully justified - two lorries overturned on the M4, trees down, roofs blown off, huge waves on the coast. I'm not sure what some people were expecting.

  5. So, I wonder if we can squeeze a few more snow events out of our winters, before climate change puts the lid on it for good? I'm grateful that I'm old enough to have experienced proper winters in the 80s - frequent snow cover and ice days! The younger generation will sadly never experience what us older folk did. I hope you are all well btw. Some of you may remember that my mum died two days before Christmas last year, well I have just sold her house, the family home that I grew up in. I keep feeling like I've betrayed her. Anyway, it's a time for me to look to what lays ahead, which hopefully includes a cold and snowy winter x

Are you sure you haven’t had frosts? Remember the air is dry so might not be visible but that doesn’t mean it’s not below freezing. My garden has been frozen solid and hasn’t once thawed since Sunday. A noteable cold spell but not for snow but constant low temperatures.

This is pretty standard affair for easterlies in Wales IMO. But much better than rain and mild mush!

I didn't say temperatures were not below freezing. The humidity has been low as a result of low dew points, coupled with the wind has resulted in no noticeable frost, where I live at least. Plenty of ice around though. I agree with it being better than mild mush but it seemed likely we could have managed a snowy breakdown. Alas, not to be.

  7. I'm not normally this downbeat, but it has to be said, this cold spell has been pants for Wales! We may get a little snow on Saturday but probably not much before milder air floods in. Where I live it's been cold, windy, dry and not even that sunny. No frost or freezing fog because of the wind, which wasn't quite strong enough to blow many of those snow showers affecting the east of England this far west, just one or two on Monday. Altogether a bit of a yawn!!
