    Not sure. I remember the Jan 1987 snow being very powdery and difficult to make snowballs out of even though there was tonnes of the stuff.

    In fact, this place is kind of like the 'cellar' of the net-weather house. Maybe I should lurk in here during the winter months, safe from the inevitable hype and the consequential letdowns.

    As you will know, I constantly bemoan the lack of snow around here. I think this is aggravated by the fact that, whilst never being an ideal location, there used to be a decent snowcover on average every couple of years. It's now a struggle to get a fraction of what's shown on these pics:

    This is unbelieveable: http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/daten/radar...f086ecb&LANG=en About the only place in the whole of England where it's raining. When everyone else is getting snow we miss out, yet when nowhere else (in Eng) is getting rain we get it. Where has this come from? We're not near the front over ROI, we're not near the coast. There's been no sun to set any showers off. Crap again!!!

    One light short snow shower around 4pm. Another heavier, but equally short shower at 5-15pm that allowed a sprinkling to settle. Couple of bigger showers bearing down on me as I type.

    Another light snow shower around midnight. Temp 1C. Still not settling.

    Another extremely light snow shower here. At 1.5C not settling.

    Another minute of snow grains. Knocked temp down from 5 to 4degC.

    Very short burst of snow pellets.

    Having peaked at about that level around 10am, it fell to between 2 and 3 and then dipped to 1.4 in the solitary snow flurry it then stayed around the 2.5 to 4.5 mark but within the last hour has maxed at 6.3degC. This is very wierd. Temp around 4.2 now.

    A very fine snow shower here for ten mins around 11-30am - no settling and temp dropped to 1.4degC having peaked at 4.1degC around 10am.

    Something really wierd happening now. Temp had risen steadily up to 4.1degC, but now it's dropped very quickly back to 2.8degC. Temperature now bobbling frenetically between 2.4 and 3.0degC. What's going on?!?

    Records since cold spell began: sat night min -1.7 sun day max +5.4 sun night min +0.1 no snow whatsoever

    The lightest of very light snow flurries around 8-30am in Wallingford, Oxon. Another one sighted around 9-30am. I hope this isn't it.

    Sporadic bits of snow mixed in the rain between Kidderminster and Oxford between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.

    Got down to -4.1 last night. Previous low was last sunday night which recorded -4.4

    Wet snow falling here since around 1pm. Temperature bobbling around either side of 2.5 deg!

    There are a couple of heavy showers in Suffolk this morning showing up on the radar - even bright red ones across the channel. Looking at the charts this doesn't tally up as there is HP sat right over this area with no fronts/troughs/wind - what's going on?!
