Weird, in south east London, Peckham Rye/Nunhead to be precise, we had plenty of heavy snow last night but very little has settled. Not sure why that happened, would ground temps have been higher? In fact it appears to have thawed slightly?
Looks like a great place, those drifts in the pic are fantastic

Keeping my fingers firmly crossed for something special next Thursday, with luck this cold spell could last to the big day! This is just as bad as waiting for heatwaves in the summer, nerve wracking stuff!
Very excited, haven't been on here since the summer, always a heat lover but in winter I always love snow, when we get it! Fingers crossed for plenty of white stuff
GFS seems to suggest that the far south and east may escape the worst on Saturday, it's on a knife edge! But as you say WoW likely to change in the next run.
I should learn never to get my hopes up! Just hope the south coast escapes on Sunday and Monday
NB. Having seen the GFS 06Z forecast I'm hopeful that the south and east may escape, but the position of that low will provide the answers. No way of knowing until later in the week I guess.
I'm keeping everything crossed
Weather watching is so frustrating, but also strangely addictive!
I'd hoped for some good weather this weekend as I'm spending the majority of it outside, not a happy chappy!
Anyone able to bring some positivity back?
I'd agree PTFD, it's not looking too bad for a weeks time on the 06Z GFS
although that low pressure flirts across the north, bringing a band of rain across the country on Saturday. Obviously could change as the week progresses. Just hope the high makes it's presence felt
I'll be keeping everything crossed, this developing High was suggested last week, just hope it sticks around for when I head to the South coast on the 16th and 17th August. Would make my day if it did!
Just reposting as the previous thread closed just after I wrote this...
We're obviously in FI territory and as many have said the prospects for August are on a knife edge but this gives me some optimism, I'm always looking for positives Time will tell I suppose, interesting to see if this continues in the next run
A weak jet to the north of the UK...
with pressure building...
Do you think the summer of 2003 was a freak occurence with regard to the position of the Jet Stream? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3897867.stm All too familiar!
It's all getting thoroughly depressing, I've got outdoor events planned for the next two weekends and judging by the latest charts it's not going to be very pleasant!
I've just taken a look at GFS for this weekend and it looked very hot in the continent. I'm heading to Paris on Sunday 19th for my birthday on Monday 20th July and it looks like it could be a scorcher over there.
I wish we could get a bit of their heat over here at some point!
Cheers Pete, thinking along the right lines there, I'll get that in the log book! Any idea if this possible warm spell may materialise in the south east over the 24th, 25th and 26th July? Still a way off I know
Thanks for your help guys
Now hoping for some warm, sunny conditions in the next couple of weeks, will be on a canal trip near Leighton Buzzard from the 24th July!
As a newby on here, can I just ask a quick question. When talking about long range forecasts, I often see FI mentioned, can I just ask what it stands for?
Thanks
Jez
