Weather Alert

Category: Level 3 Warning

Weather type: Heavy Rain and Gales or Severe Gales

Affecting: Scotland.

Date Valid For: 20:00 Wednesday 22nd December - 12:00 noon Thursday 23rd December 2004

Time Of Issue: 12.40pm Wednesday 22nd December 2004.

A deep Atlantic low is forecast to pass just to the north of Scotland overnight and into tomorrow. Along with spells of heavy rain, gales or severe gales are likely to affect Scotland during this period, with gusts of between 60 and 70MPH quite likely.

This will lead to difficult driving conditions, and bring the risk of some minor structural damage.

Gales are also likely in other western areas along with heavy rain.

Confidence Level: 70%
