Affecting: Central and Northern Scotland, including the Highlands and the Northern Isles

This is an update to Advanced Weather Alert 00080.

A cold weekend is likely across the UK for all parts, but most areas will be dry and bright.

However, central and northern Scotland will see frequent and at times, heavy, snow showers blown in on a strong northerly wind.

Snow is likely to accumulate in these parts, especially over the hills, where amounts of 5 to 10cm are likely. With the strong winds, whiteout conditions are expected at times along with the drifting of any lying snow, especially in places over 250m in height.

Driving conditions will become hazardous in this part of the world.

Elsewhere in the UK can expect mainly dry conditions, with just the odd wintry shower (mainly of hail or sleet) in parts exposed to the brisk northwesterly winds. Frosts will become widespread at night, with the risk of icy surfaces where any showers do fall.

Please stay tuned to Net-Weather for any possible Flash Alerts that may be issued if necessary.

Confidence Level: 80%

Note: This alert should be considered a guide and we strongly recommend you stay tuned to the Met-Office for further warnings and updates.
