The current hot and increasingly humid spell looks set to break down later this week as low pressure and an associated cold front moves in from the Atlantic, whilst at the same time a thundery low develops over France and moves northwards later on Thursday and into Friday, bringing a risk of heavy showers and thunderstorms to many parts of England and Wales on Friday.

Before Friday though, there will be a risk of isolated thunderstorms developing during Thursday night over France and the Bay of Biscay, and moving into southern parts of England.

During Friday, further showers are expected to develop over central and southern parts of England, and turn heavy and thundery as it remains very warm or hot. Hail and gusty winds cannot be ruled out either. Further north, and central and northern parts of England could well see some particularly heavy spells of rain during Friday. Localised flash flooding and dangerous travelling conditions must be expected.
