Well, we reached a new peak at 29.8ºC a few minutes ago, but now its on a downward spiral again, 29.4º, so I think we might have reached the high for the day.

hi

Temps in July in excess or equal to 32C (90F) in this area.

Today the high is currently 33.7C at 1505

Since I started regular and kept weather data in January 1997 there have been just one other instance; not 2003 but in 2005, and that was not in July but 19/6/05 with 32.0C.

So today is the first time it has exceeded that value.

Looking through the Finningley records, back to 1942/3, shows the absolute max at 33.3C on 31/7/1943.

There were 4 instances of 32C or higher during the time the airfield was open;

32.0C on 22/7/89

32.2C on 3/7/76

32.2C on 12/7/49

33.3C on 31/7/43.

So for this part of the world we are entering record breaking territory, data shown on Look North at lunch time supported the Finningley figures for the 3 main airfields in Yorks and Lincs, although oddly it did not show Cranwell, perhaps their figures are not quite so high although I would have thought they would show similar values.
