Looking like I'm going to have to upgrade my bandwidth. If the number of visits keeps going up I'll be over it next month and some interesting weather turns up I'll be over this month.

OON, I thought advertising on this site had to be approved by Paul first!

Alternatively, you could let me re-design your website for you. That would solve your bandwidth problem.

I'm just surprised and pleased how fast it's grown. Sometime it's got to level off but two months ago I was just getting up to 2gigs worth a month. This month it's going to be very close to 5 gig which is my limit.

no idea what my limit is, all I know is I've had over 20,000 visits in about 15 months which is not bad.

If it keeps at the present rate I'd get 27600 visits a year. Going to bypass that pretty easily I think. The record for one day is 261 visits and if it's stormy later this week that could go as well. Of course if was a Beeb journalist who doesn't know the differance between a hit and a visit he'd find the next number 835906 amazing.

Now that is surely the best guarantee I have ever seen.

just had a proper look at the tally, its something I hardly ever look at,

bottom of the page=20,120

stats day by day 12 month total=31,468 but another one on a monthly basis shows 38,418 , the other staggering figure is 906, 575,

no idea what the differences are, certainly not the last one, but the first ones are from the same counter site and supposedly for hits/visits, whatever.

i think it might have something to do with the webcam as storms look to be about ppl want to see what its like on webcams across the UK i took mine off due to it useing to much bandwidth

thats just one cause though as google have prob cached it

Well it only loads up once a minute and the file size is pretty low. Most of the time not many look at it. Popular pages are the current weather and the Lightning detector when the storms are popping.

I also find it interesting that IE isn't the most used Browser. Firefox now beating it.

I use a program called Fastats Mach5 Analyzer, which is very good for seeing exactly how many hits, visits etc you get. It breaks it down so you can see where people are accessing your site from, which search engines they are using and what search phrase they used, how long they are spending on the site, which pages they look at etc. It helps work out which parts of the site are the most popular or least accessed - not that I have much time to dwell on the stats. but it is useful to know for when I update the site.

I am getting an average of 200+ visitors a day. At the moment my hit counter is set to only record unique visitors on a daily basis (it is almost up to 20,000 after three years), but if people access the site other than via the home page it doesn't record them. So the counter misses quite a few. I also have a problem with the frames design of the site. Often people get trapped on the site because not all the frames load. I have had to add pop-up boxes which are triggered in such instances and redirect people to the home page. Not ideal, as they don't get to visit the page they really want to see. So I am ditching the frames and going ASP, and the hits counter will work for every page. I am also getting my guestbook reworked so that messages will only get posted once I have approved them. At the moment I have a list of banned words which will not allow messages to be posted if people use them, and I also get an email every time someone posts a message. But I am getting so much spam that I am having to add at least hlf a dozen words or phrases every day.

Let me know if you want more info on Mach5 Analyzer. I can't remember the exact cost, but I think the regular program is about £50 and the all-singing-and-dancing M5 Gold is double that.

Cheers

Peter

thanks Peter, not sure what mine is but I don't pay, but it does seem to give lots of data, how many access the site front page or those who delve further, per day per month etc which is enough for me.

As to e mails, touch wood, I have not had any major problems so far, its my private e mail address that fills with garbage. If I had one Viagra tablet of each advert each day, well, best not to go into detail on a family web site!

Thanks for you info and I've copied it in case I decide to change

regards

John
