Super Typhoon Durian has killed at least 100 people according to a bbc news article this morning. Have been watching this storm for a while and it did gain cat 5 status at one point.

Super Typhoon Durian

Also we have tropical cyclone Anita very close to the east coast of Africa and Tropical Storm 4P (I have yet to find a name on this storm) near where Yani was last week in the South Pacific.

It looks like Typhoon Durian is going to go into the North Indian Ocean from the West Pacific! Has this happened before?

Super Typhoon Durian dumped 466mm (18.3inches)of rain on the Philippines!!!

At its peak the typhoon had gusts of 165mph.

According to more recent reports the death toll from Super Typhoon is now well over 1,000. 543 in the Philippines +740 missing/presumed dead and an additional 59 in Vietnam. The typhoon is now heading for Thailand, which is highly unusual at this time of the year.

Indeed, very sad. Supposedly it's killed another 100 people in Vietnam. Durian certainly was catastophic.

Tropical depression 25W has formed but is taking a more southerly track to effect southern parts of the Philippines and hopefully will not effect the same areas as Durian did.

Thanks Rusty.

Thankfully this storm wasnt quite as severe and evacuation seemed to be successful. Thank goodness another 1000 didn't die. Vietnam in the firing line next, current forecasts are predicting Utor to strengthen from it's current cat 1 status as it moves towards Vietnam. Hopefully it'll lose some steam before it makes it.
