Well done, especially if you got that without a web search.

Local knowledge sometimes comes in handy! But I have also read this in a number of weather related books. Sadly I think 8 people died and the avalanche was on Boxing Day in the 1830's.

Never really associated the UK with avalanches before now!

There are loads in Scotland every year... i've even got pictures of some that i have taken! Well the aftermath of them rather than capturing the actual avalanche. Heard a few though

I havn't heard about avalanches or threat of them outside scotland before in recent years.

I wish I was up there though as all I managed to get yesterday was just the lightest of flurries wish i lived up north sometimes.

Wasn't that avalanche in Sussex on the 27th december 1836? and as someone already mentioned killed 8 people

The figure in the picture is stood at the bottom of an avalanche from the gully above, most casualties in the UK result from climbers being swept down gullies

Sadly it appears that a climber has fallen and died on Striding Edge /Hellvellyn yesterday.
