Norwegian Earthquake

Norway has suffered it's largest quake (6.2) in the Svalbard region. I wonder if we are to expect any 'waves' from it?

This is a pretty good website - not sure if anyone is interested but you can sign up for a notifications of all earthquakes / tremors / aftershocks as they happen - all for the priclley sum of £0.00.

I have signed up so will report on how 'quick' the notification email is as and when they occur.

The problem with quakes in ice bound regions is the disruption to the ice. Be it sea ice or glacial ice the energy of the quake, when absorbed, can lead to disruption/fragmentation. Maybe some of the upland glaciers in Svalbard will have been affected by this quake and the 'S' waves may well have disrupted the sea ice to the north of of the archipelago. If the sea ice to the north has suffered then the spring thaw will be accentuated by the increased surface are of ice presented to the sea/air along the fracture lines. Seeing as most of the multiyear ice is flowing out down the east coast of Greenland the any early removal of the 'cork' holding back the flow is not good news!

If an autumnal storm in the bearants sea can lead to the shattering of an Antarctic Shelf berg then maybe the teleconnections aren't that far fetched (Larsen b12 I think?).
