[Somerset Squall]

After a brief lull in activity, the west Pacific produces a new storm. As that tracking chart shows, 22W won't las long, simply because it has very little time over water. However, conditions are favourable for intensification over the next 12hrs or so, and 22W has now become a 35kt tropical storm according to the JTWC. JMA, interestingly, has not yet picked up on this storm. 22W is expected to peak at 40kts prior to landfall in Vietnam. Likely to be a rainmaker more than anything. However, 22W is quite small so there is a small chance that it may strengthen quickly and peak higher than expected. A case of wait and see as always
